If you’re like me and can’t leave the house without a lipstick in tow, then lip blushing could be the beauty trend you need to get around.
Lip blushing, aka lip tattoo is a type of semi-permanent tattoo (makeup) which adds colour, shape and definition to your lips.
Like with any cosmetic procedure, you’ll want to see the best, and we can safely say that here in Perth, your go-to is Katarina Callegari.
What Can You Expect From Lip Blushing?
First up, you’ll need to head into Katarina’s oh-so-glam studio in Subiaco for an initial consultation. This is when the whole process will be explained and you’ll be able to chat about what sort of colour you’re looking for. The initial consult costs $70 and includes a ridiculously amazing Peggy Sue lip balm and exfoliant to prep your lips and get them silky smooth.
Lip tattooing is done over two appointments and the total cost is $850. It’s definitely a splash of cash, but honestly, I can guarantee the results are worth it. The first appointment takes around two hours as you choose your colour and the outline of your lips is drawn out. It’s at this point that if you haven’t figured it out already, you’ll soon see that Katarina is an absolute perfectionist, and this is why we’re infatuated with her clinic.
When you’re happy with the outline of your lips, you’ll have a whole heap of numbing cream applied which makes the process totally tolerable. Does it hurt? I’d say it’s a little uncomfortable, but nothing I couldn’t handle.
If you’ve ever had your eyebrows tattooed, the process is pretty similar except for a much easier after care regime. The tattooing uses tiny needles on a tattoo gun to deliver pigment into the lips, building layers of colour. The results are a natural looking lip stain, enhancing the shape of your lips to make them look fuller and more symmetrical.
After the appointment your lips will be a little swollen (hello natural filler) but this goes down after a few hours. For the next few days you’ll look like you have voluminous lips with lipstick on… a total vibe. It calms down after about three days.
The second appointment is your touch-up appointment where any imperfections are addressed and your colour can be darkened. This happens between eight to ten weeks after the first appointment and takes an hour.
How Long Does It Last?
It really depends on your lips and skin, but in general lip tattooing lasts for around one to three years. The more intense the tattoo, the longer it lasts.
Are The Results Worth It?
One word—yes! Even after the first session, I was absolutely obsessed with lip blushing. It’s like waking up with perfectly applied lipstick and my lips are so much more symmetrical. I had a loss of pigment on my bottom lip, and it has made such a difference to the shape of my lips. I’ve had compliments galore.
