Jacquie Chan—the woman behind Miss Chow’s, Lucy Luu, Lena’s Bar & Eats and more—is at it again.
This time, the legendary restauranteur (affectionately known as Perth's Dumpling Queen) has taken to Fremantle with not one, but three new venues—an Asian dining room, beer garden and speakeasy slash distillery.
Moon & Mary is Chan’s most ambitious opening yet, with all three venues located inside the Old Fremantle Lockup—a heritage site on Henderson Street where convicts would spend the night before being moved to the courthouse.
If you’re familiar with Chan’s other venues, you’ll already have an idea of what to expect: Asian flavours, modern design and playful cocktails.
Here, she’s really dialling up the amplitude while paying tribute to Freo’s little-known Asian heritage, with the venue’s namesake and inspiration coming from WA’s first documented Chinese person, Moon Chow, and the woman he married, Mary.
The new multi-venue is now open, so let's take a look at what you can expect...
Smash Fresh Seafood In The Elevated Dining Room

With Group Executive Chef Aldren Teo behind the menu and Singaporean-born, Freo local Head Chef Zane Morrison (Running With Thieves) leading the kitchen, you’re in good hands here.
Gear up for plenty of seafood eats, built around the balance of sweet, salty and sour, all served in a modern, elevated dining hall. For special occasions you can also book into one of two private ‘Experience Rooms’ set within once was once old cells.
Sip And Shop House-Distilled Spirits Inside The Speakeasy Bar

Chan loves a good cocktail, so we’re excited to see her level up the drinks side of things at Best Behaviour, a new speakeasy bar and distillery within Moon & Mary. Here you can sample premium spirits including vodka, gin, spiced rum, and whiskey, all crafted and distilled in-house.
Plus, you can even purchase a bottle to take home. They’ve also brought in Greg Harding as the new Group General Manager (ex-West Winds Gin), so he’ll no doubt putting his distillery experience to good use too.
Keep It Casual In The Sunlit Courtyard
The Rec Yard brings the site’s history to the forefront, with etchings of past convicts kept intact on its heritage walls. This will be the ideal spot to meet mates for afternoon drinks in the sunshine, and then accidentally stick around well past sunset.
Moon & Mary is the eighth opening from Chan’s growing hospitality group, but there's still another venue at Edwards Wines in Margaret River due to open before the end of the year.
