Already thinking about that next Europe trip or domestic getaway? Perth has just laid out its Perth Airport Master Plan 2026, meaning your next flight could be a whole lot smoother and more glamorous if you plan your schedule just right.
What Are The Upgrades?
Investing billions of dollars into this project, Perth Airport is aiming to “provide Western Australians with a world class travel experience” that will ultimately “create a vast array of new tourism, business and trade opportunities”, says airport CEO Jason Waters.
Parking is one of the first upgrades, with the master plan including two multi-story car parks that will allow travellers to be picked up, dropped off, or even leave their cars behind with more ease and space. Take-off will also be running a lot more efficiently, with a new 3,000 metre runway to be implemented parallel to the current main runway.
Both International and Domestic terminals will be getting their makeovers, with Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 subject to some serious expansion–this means more space for both international and domestic travellers, respectively, to move to and fro through the airport. We can also expect some upgraded and fancy facilities to be opened for flights and areas run by Qantas Group operations, so don’t be surprised if a new lounge or two appear.
The new hotel might be the cherry on top, boasting a planned 237 rooms to be added and run by Accor–no more traffic-jam stress or intense early morning wakeups, you’ll be right next to your terminal.
To really add that extra ease, CEO Jason Waters has also assured that the Perth Aiport Master Plan is working within the sustainability aims of Net Zero by 2032, and that they have taken the steps necessary to ensure acceptance and minimal noise levels, for any worried locals.
Where Will This Take Us?
With all of this new space, upgrades and facilities, Perth Airport is going to be seeing an undeniable increase in both passengers and aircraft travel. The plan is currently predicting annual passengers to increase by over 10 million by 2046, and aircraft movements will increase by over 50,000 by the same year.
Any road changes or construction detours are still TBA, but what we do know is that, once completed, the Perth Airport Master Plan 2026 is predicting direct and indirect jobs to triple by 2046–going from 27,300 jobs to 75,400. Not only will this be great economically, but there will also be an immense improvement to domestic and international air freight with all the increased space and facilities–a huge bonus.
There’s no doubt about it, the Perth Airport Master Plan 2026 is going to cement this airport as one of the most significant assets for the entire Western Australia region. It’s never too early to start prepping that travel itinerary.
