Move over Harley Reid, there are some new world-class athletes in town. This summer, Perth/Boorloo will once again host the Australian leg of the rugby sevens competition—the ultimate mash-up of sports, live music, dress-ups, and entertainment.
Kicking off the year with a bang, twelve of the best men’s and women’s rugby sevens teams in the game—will go head-to-head at HBF Park across three sun-soaked days.
With just 14 minutes on the clock and seven players on each team, the games are fast-paced and high-intensity. You can expect blink-and-you’ll-miss-it jaw dropping big hits, explosive try-scoring, and dramatic sprints up and down the field.
But it’s not just the sporting superstars that get the crowds going. The HSBC SVNS Perth is a fully-fledged three-day party, hosting internationally acclaimed bands, legendary local artists, live DJs, and roaming artists before, during, and after the games.
This year's lineup of epic entertainment also includes tunes by the locals who make up Perth’s Southern River Band, rising star Adrian Dzvuke, Eurovision alumni, and the synth-metal superstars Voyager, with support from Perth Symphony Orchestra’s Inneka.
And for those that love a boogie, behind the decks, Perth’s homegrown heroes Bexx, Hainzy, Aslan, Cue, Rio de Niro, Skye, and Tashnat will be providing the party tunes all day and into the evening.
You’ll also find multiple bars for ample hydration, food trucks dishing up everything from flavour-packing Thai dishes to fish and chips, and an all-day Beach Club and Party Stand pumping from dawn ‘til dusk and beyond. For premium ticke holders, the legends at Spring Hotel will be providing a queue-free space for a boogie and a beverage. Rugby fan, or not, the best part of SVNS is that there’s something for everyone.
As per tradition with the tournament, dressing up is highly encouraged. There are no rules—we’ve seen clowns, cowboys, bananas, and Baywatch costumes—so get your crew together and get creative.
Summer in Perth is always pretty special, but, with the return of the HSBC SVNS Perth, January is shaping up to be the best one yet. Running from the 24-26, tickets start from $30 with a slew of multi-day passes so you don’t have to miss out on any of the fun.
