Race Your Mates Around Stadium Park In These Go Karts Developed By F1 Driver Daniel Ricciardo

By: Madison Lowe

If you’ve ever looked at the beautiful surrounds of Optus Stadium and thought the paths would make the perfect track for kart racing, you wouldn’t be the only one.

Perth’s leading indoor go kart racing centre, The Kart Centre, has teamed up with local legend and Formula One Driver Daniel Ricciardo to develop 20 ‘Ricciardo Karts’, which can be raced at high speed on a 730 metre long track around Stadium Park. While the pop-up karting experience was only meant to run until February, it was so popular they've just locked in a second season running from Sunday 14 February to Thursday18 March and we could not be more keen.

Round up your adrenaline junkie mates or challenge your colleagues and book yourselves in for one of the three race packages—with no age limits for racers (as long as they’re over 140cm tall), the Stadium Park Karts also make for the perfect family activity this Summer. Dual karts are also available for racers requiring assistance, meaning everyone can get in on the action.

One 10 minute race will set you back $60, but we reckon savvy spending speedsters should book three races for $140. In those 10 minutes, you’ll zoom through the Stadium Station corrals, under platforms and through the underpass of Victoria Park Drive at speeds of over 50km/h, all while taking in stunning views of Matagarup Bridge, the Swan River and Optus Stadium.

The Stadium Park Karts race from 7am until 7pm each day, so you can start your morning off with some adrenaline or watch as the sun sets over Perth city while you tear up the track.

Racing is hungry work, but thankfully you can fill up your tank with the Pit Lane Combo at the City View Cafe for just $25. Chow down on the succulent Wagyu beef burger with Spanish chorizo, roasted capsicum, rocket, camembert and cornichon aioli and then wash it down with a Pipe Dreams Coastal Lager by Gage Roads. Just be sure you don’t drink anything before your race—all drivers will be breath tested, and must return a reading of 0.00 before being given the green light.
