MasterChef Favourite Matt Sinclair is Bringing Sum Yung Guys West

Perth’s dining scene is set for a flavour-packed new arrival, with MasterChef Australia favourite Matt Sinclair bringing his much-loved Noosa restaurant, Sum Yung Guys, to Crown Perth for a limited-time residency.

The six-week pop-up will see Sinclair and the Sum Yung Guys team take over the former Bistro Guillaume space at Crown Metropol, serving the restaurant’s signature bold take on South-East Asian cuisine. If you’ve never made the trip to Noosa for Sum Yung Guys, this is your chance to see what all the fuss is about without leaving Perth.

Sinclair rose to fame on season 8 of MasterChef Australia before opening Sum Yung Guys alongside fellow chefs Jeremiah Jones and Michael Rickard. The Sunshine Coast restaurant has since become known for its vibrant, share-style approach to pan-Asian dining, punchy flavours and focus on local produce.

And the Perth menu sounds pretty enticing.

Expect some of the restaurant’s most loved dishes, including prawn toast with gochu mayo, hiramasa kingfish with green scud chilli, coconut and laksa oil, Southern Thai yellow curry with snapper and a rich beef rendang.

For Sinclair, bringing Sum Yung Guys west is also a chance to get stuck into WA’s famously impressive produce. The residency is part of Crown Perth’s growing lineup of culinary talent, with the resort saying the pop-up program is also designed to showcase Western Australian produce and support local suppliers.

Sum Yung Guys at Crown Perth will run from Thursday 17 September to Saturday 24 October, with lunch and dinner available Tuesday to Saturday. Bookings are essential, so if you’re keen to get your hands on that prawn toast, you’ll want to get in early.
