If you’re keen to support green in 2025 (and you should be), we asked Urban List readers to shout out their fave homegrown businesses that are putting in the hard yards to stay sustainable.
And boy is there a stack of local venues stepping up and showing us how it’s done. From adding Containers for Change bins to ditching single-use coffee cups, it’s the small changes that these restaurants, bars, cafes and markets are making that add up to big a environmental difference for our community.
Here are six eco-minded businesses—as chosen by you—where you can shop, sip and snack sustainably around West Aus this year.
Summer x Salt Markets
Clarko Reserve, West Coast Dr, Trigg
Dive into a sea of sustainable stallholders by coastal creatives, artists and designers at Summer x Salt Markets, happening throughout summer on the first and third Saturday of every month at Trigg’s Clarko Reserve.
Completely free from plastic, waste and single-use products, there are hundreds of stalls, food trucks, live music, family-friendly wellness activities, coastal cleanups and a mug library so you don’t have to drop a disposable coffee cup in general waste.
As if they weren’t doing enough already, these award-winning, carbon-positive markets also foster change in the coastal community—encouraging conversation, connection and positivity while creating opportunities and showcasing sustainable living.
Hank’s Corner Cafe
64A Scarborough Beach Rd, North Perth
Hank’s is one of those cute, cosy cafes that immediately feel like home. With a concise menu of elevated, nostalgic brunch dishes like their oozing Welsh Rarebit and golden-crumb-encrusted scotch eggs, you'll not only be eating well here, but doing good for the environment, too.
The counter, shelving, and kids' area have all been made using recycled and reclaimed materials, while the eclectic range of mismatched crockery and cutlery have all been sourced from op shops. Plus, the coffee cups are home compostable.
There's a Containers for Change bin where you can drop your 10¢ containers to stop them ending up in general waste, and the friendly folk behind the coffee machine will gladly take your pre-loved Keep Cups to pass on to a new owner.
The Beach Bus
1 Curtin Ave, Mosman Park
You’ll likely be familiar with the retro turquoise bus perched by Mosman Park’s dog-friendly beach. The Beach Bus has been dishing up some of Perth’s most ‘grammable acai bowls and espressos every summer for a few years now, but did you know it’s also 100% battery and solar-powered?
These guys don’t mess around when it comes to sustainability. They recycle all their plastics, compost their green waste, and any leftover bread goes to the chooks that lay the eggs for their baked treats. How good.
Bottega Deli
70 Bay View Terrace, Claremont
This family-run corner store is changing the way we think about leftovers. Run by sisters Annabella and Victoria La Pegna, Bottega Deli has embraced Italy’s famed la cucina povera or ‘kitchen of the poor’ since it opened in late 2023, utilising seasonal and local ingredients and minimising food waste through creative use.
The result is hearty, homestyle classics exploding with flavour, with very few scraps going in the bin. Choose from a rotating range of pasta and paninis from the deli counter, or pick up a pre-packaged artisan product from the shelves—a perfect feel-good prezzie for the person who's impossible to buy for.
Rústico At Hay Shed Hill
511 Harmans Mill Rd, Wilyabrup
This tapas joint-slash-winery-slash-wedding venue is taking care of its little slice of WA’s stunning southwest, so you can wine and dine sustainably.
Nestled within the lush vineyards and natural landscapes of Margaret River, this jack-of-all-trades spot embraces eco-conscious practices to preserve the region's unique biodiversity—from cooking with local, seasonal produce, to practising eco-friendly winemaking. Even the on-site accommodation is designed with eco-friendly principles, so you can soak up the region's beauty within minimal impact.
The Rechabite
224 William St, Northbridge
As one of Perth’s venues with impressive 10¢ container returns, you can drink responsibly AND sustainably at Northbridge’s multi-level entertainment complex.
There are four separate venues across three action-packed levels at the Rechabite—the Goodwill Basement Club, the Korean-inspired restaurant Double Rainbow, the Rechabite Hall and Hello rooftop bar—each returning their 10¢ containers to Containers for Change. That’s a hell of a lot of containers being saved from general waste.
