This WA Food And Wine Festival Is Back With Endless Experiences Worth Travelling For

Pack your bags because Taste Great Southern, the gastronomic journey through the Great Southern region is back. From Thursday, 4 May to Sunday, 14 May, the 11-day feast is serving up flavours that are nothing short of sublime. 

Gorge over 40 culinary experiences from Albany to Mt Barker and listen to over 20 chefs and winemakers as they host a string of belt-unbuckling long lunches and wine sessions, all the while road-tripping the rugged southern coastline, mountains, and forests.

A hardcore foodie festival and a unique escape in one, grab your mates, hop in the car, and head down to the Great Southern.

Aged Riesling And Seafood Sojourn

Albany, Friday 5 May

Cheers to all things riesling, the sweeter and brighter sister of a sav; she’s often overlooked but not here. Sample a rare selection of aged, award-winning Oranje Tractor rieslings at a sustainable, carbon-negative vineyard. You’ll even learn a thing or two with guest sommelier, Paola Arosio guiding your palette through a discovery of the aromatics and savoury depth of the wine.

Great Southern Cellar Door

Albany, Saturday 6 May

The Great Southern Region is bringing out all their best players for one day, showcasing over 100 wines, breweries, spirits and food trucks—a real taster of everything the region has to offer. Walk through Eyre park taking in all the workshops, produce presentations and barrel sessions alongside a lineup of local artists. Support local business owners and take a little something home for you.

Catch Of The South

Albany, Friday 12 May 

The South Coast is the perfect opportunity to indulge in seafood—and not just one dish but an eight-course degustation with a Cherubino wine pairing. Taste delicacies like Akoya oysters, kingfish and crab then meet the local producers behind them. To cap off your delicious night, pick the brains behind the menu, Master Chef’s Gary Mehigan and WA food ambassador Don Hancey.

Bangers ‘n’ Bangers 

Albany, Saturday 13 May 

This isn’t your average sausage sizzle, this is a celebration of all things snags, paired with Bred Co, a hyper-local Albany bakery where everything is grown, milled and baked in the Great Southern region—a stone’s throw away from the event—as well as Express Winemakers who bring new life to the region by revamping previously abandoned vineyards into flourishing vineyards. Expect four incredible courses along with live DJs.

Taste True Passion

Kojonup, Saturday 13 May 

The Shire of Kojonup is bringing together world-class local produce, Frankland River Wineries and the passionate creativity of Chef Patron Kenny McHardy from Manuka Woodfire Kitchen. Think juicy Wagyu beef, slow-roasted lamb, and unique foraged bush tucker ingredients, all cooked over a wood-fired grill in the beautiful Jack Cox Courtyard and Rose Maze. We’re telling you, that charr can’t be replicated anywhere else.

From My Kitchen Rules and cookbooks to feasting and food trucks, Jordan Bruno brings his plethora of talents to this authentic and intimate experience. Start your day with live demonstrations before getting your hands dirty and learning the art of pasta making. After perfecting the Maltese and Italian cuisine synonymous with Bruno, treat yourself to a bountiful lunch and wine from the Lake House set to a backdrop of lakefront countryside views.
