Applecross’ Newest Opening Is An Upscale Euro-Gastropub On The River
Amid the ongoing gentrification of our local pubs, one with an actual identity stands out. In a sea of polished, expensive and vaguely interchangeable venues, The Heart is Perth’s newest Euro-centric gastropub from real generational publicans, bringing an elevated take on the traditional pub experience to Applecross.
Drawing inspiration from their ancestral British pub, The Golden Heart, owners Ryan and Nikki Esqulant have created a space imbued with English charm and heritage, reimagined for an Australian audience.

At the centre of the venue is a horseshoe-shaped bar pouring 22 beers on tap from Carlton & United Breweries, alongside favourites like Guinness and Kilkenny. There’s also a premium wine list showcasing WA producers alongside international labels, magnums and cellar releases displayed in a dramatic open-view cellar.
Menu-wise, expect elevated pub classics with a few curveballs thrown in. Signature dishes include a flambe ribeye and beef cheek cottage pie, alongside a selection of quasi-Japanese dishes inspired by Nobu. Desserts lean equally indulgent, with sticky date madeleines tipped to become an instant crowd favourite.

Set beneath the luxe Riviere Residence development on Canning Beach Road, The Heart is the latest venue from ELG Australia, the group behind Hillarys Beach Club, Sorrento Beach Club, Yanchep Beach Club and Bar Olé. The sprawling riverside space will cater for up to 350 guests, including a 60-seat alfresco overlooking the Swan River and Perth city skyline.
