This Electrifying Dance Experience Is Taking Over Northbridge For One Week Only
Get ready to be dazzled and inspired by the electrifying performances of State: Contemporary Vision as it returns for its fourth year at the iconic Heath Ledger Theatre. Presented by West Australian Ballet, State is a contemporary dance experience that will challenge perceptions of traditional ballet, with its blend of classic elegance and cutting-edge innovation.
With a limited run of just nine performances across one week in May and June, this season takes a bold new approach to ballet by showcasing works from international and local contemporary choreographers—Robert Bondara, James O'Hara and Raewyn Hill, Artistic Director of Perth contemporary dance company, Co3.
Featuring three acts from rising stars to world premieres, each element of State invites audiences to immerse themselves in a journey, to expect the unexpected, and enjoy an evening of world-class dance, breathtaking music and stunning costumes.
Experience A Fresh Collaboration
First up, you’ll witness a world premiere by acclaimed Polish choreographer Robert Bondara returning to create magic exclusively for West Australian Ballet dancers after three seasons of working together. The collaboration delivers a fresh perspective on contemporary ballet, blending Bondara's unique vision with the our talented local and international dancers.

Next on the drawcard, "CARNIVALE.6," by Raewyn Hill, artistic director of contemporary dance company Co3, draws inspiration from the mesmerising world of Spanish bullfighting. Relentless and frenzied, this act is all about pushing the boundaries of human movement and emotion. This high-energy performance is a sensory experience that will shake you to your core—in the best way possible.
Push The Limits With The Finale
The final act by boundary-pushing James O'Hara, delivers an edgy, in-your-face style that this choreographer's known for. From the soaring leaps to the intricate footwork, the final world premiere of State is unapologetically cool.
