Fall Down The Rabbit Hole At This Immersive Wonderland Exhibition

Starting December 16, the WA Museum Boola Bardip will host a mind-bending exhibition celebrating all things Alice in Wonderland.

The interactive exhibit will take you on a journey down the rabbit hole and back through the
history of the children’s classic, from Lewis Carroll’s novel to its multiple screen adaptations. The exhibit features a range of interactive displays and bespoke digital activities, straight from the minds of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). Follow your imagination and feel your way through a range of unique, playful spaces with art and artefacts from the Wonderland universe.

Not sure where to start? Throw yourself into the fantasy world with some of our favourite
immersive activities at the Wonderland exhibition.

Giant Chairs, Tiny Houses And A Hallway Of Doors

There are plenty of quirky photo ops throughout the Wonderland exhibit. Squeeze yourself into a tiny house or stand on a giant chair to peer inside a replica of Alice’s bedroom. Don’t forget to explore the Hallway of Doors, where behind each door lies an entirely different ‘world’. Wherever you end up, Wonderland certainly rewards curiosity. The more you interact, the more you will uncover in this world-class exhibition.

Play Croquet With The Queen Of Hearts

Will you lose your head in a game of flamingo croquet with the Queen of Hearts? Have your photograph taken and transformed into an avatar on the field of the queen’s croquet match. This digital experience will allow you to project yourself straight into Wonderland.

Alice In Popular Culture

At the heart of theWonderland exhibit is a fascinating exploration of Alice in Wonderland and its position in popular culture throughout the years. From retro toys to silent film, animation, puppetry, live-action film, CGI makeovers, video games, and more, discover how the famous tale and its iconic characters have been adapted and interpreted over the course of its legacy.

Follow The Lights…

The museum exterior will light up with the story and characters of Alice in Wonderland as part of Perth’s City of Lights trail. The animation and light exhibit is inspired by the original illustrations by John Tenniel featured in the Lewis Carroll book. Keep a lookout for Alice, the white rabbit, the bubble-blowing caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat around the museum grounds. Illuminate: Alice is on daily between 7-10.30pm—and it’s free!

Wonderland After Dark

Find out what Wonderland is like after the sun goes down at one of the special night events at the WA Museum. Visit the Half Mad Bar and tour the exhibition at your own pace, while also enjoying a cocktail, live music, drag performances and more.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

Take a seat at the Mad Hatter’s table and revel in nonsense over giant cups and saucers. In addition to the exhibition table, there will also be a chance to attend one of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Parties – a ticketed high tea where you can enjoy some sweet or savoury treats. Book for groups of up to 10 or grab a ticket just for yourself, Alice-style.
