The Verdict
If you’re a fan of a good curry, you’ve no doubt heard of 2 Fat Indians. With three existing locations, they've been a favourite for refined Indian cuisine in Perth for years. So when we heard they’d opened up a slick new upstairs bar and eatery within the Doubletree in Northbridge, we couldn’t be more excited.
The space is split into two spaces. Head to the right and you’ll find yourself in Theka, a moody velvet-clad bar overlooking James Street serving scrumptious Indian tapas and some seriously show-stopping cocktails. Open from 6pm until 1am Friday to Sunday, it's perfect for a cheeky late-night feast. And don’t let the whole tapas thing fool you, you can easily fill up on these flavourful snacks—think nibbles like papadums with mint and tamarind dips, chicken tikka and lamb seekh kebabs, as well as more substantial curried naanzas (an Indian play on pizza). If you like the sweeter things in life, you’ll want to wash those down with one of their super 'grammable fairy floss cocktails or why not spice it up with the Jamuntini featuring vodka, Kala Khatta syrup, Chaat masala and lime juice.
For a full meal, you can head to the main restaurant and devour authentic Indian dishes like Paneer Lababdar (a Punjab specialty), Old Delhi Murg Makhani (a classic take on Butter Chicken), Railway Mutton Curry (a goat curry passed down to limited Indian chefs) and so many more. The menu features plenty of regional specialities alongside those more common Indian dishes you love, and they're all seriously good—just ask your waiter for suggestions, order a bunch to share and try not to fight over who gets the last piece of garlic naan.
The restaurant is open daily from 6pm 'til 11pm and the tapas bar is open from 6pm 'til 1am from Friday to Sunday.
