The Verdict
We’re probably not the only ones who have always wanted to visit New Orleans, and since 2020 it’s been feeling a little further away than usual. That’s about to change—Clarences has just reopened its doors as Clarences Company Store with a funky Creole twist on the iconic Mount Lawley small bar.
The brains behind this gorgeous spot, AKA Perth’s latest hospitality dream team, includes owner and hospo gun Eli Barlow, as well as Chef Daire Fox from Varnish on King and Phil Weber from El Grotto and Si Paradiso. Dishing up heavenly eats inspired by American and Creolean cuisine, the delights on the menu consist of the freshest WA produce. Sustainable and mouth-watering—what’s not to love? It’s all delicious, but whatever you do, just don’t leave before trying the deboned fried chicken—it’s gluten free, insanely juicy and the kind of share plate you wish you ordered just for yourself.
Expect a quirky New Orleans French Quarter vibe, with this freshly re-designed spot boasting a gorgeous courtyard adorned with fairy lights for those warm summer nights and the coolest light fittings we’ve ever seen inside—made of brass instruments to get you right in the mood for jazz nights.
Bringing experience from all over the foodie and drinkie scene, these guys have also whipped up a truly impressive drinks menu—it’s more bar than restaurant, remember. Craft beer, international wine, spirits, and whiskey-inspired cocktails (think off-the-wall flavours that just work somehow) come together to give us a brilliantly cutting-edge hangout. Plus, there’s also a baller list of high-end drinks if you really want to live it up. Love your cocktail with a side of caviar? You can have it all here.
So pop your jazz shoes on and head over to Clarences Company Store for a night of fun and flowing drinks, open from 4pm Wednesday to Sunday.
