The Verdict
Billing themselves as a fresh perspective on modern Chinese, Miss Chow’s in South Perth is equal parts warm and friendly service, delicious food, punchy cocktails and a gorgeous airy and open interior.
The menu—which spans snacks, soups, dumplings, noodle dishes, rice dishes and some seriously good mains—covers all of your Chinese favourites with a decidedly modern twist.
The spicy fried chicken has reached cult-like status in Perth for good reason—it’s tender, spicy and delicious and we could probably eat it for lunch every day given half the chance. Other menu stars included the caramel sesame-glazed spare ribs (so freaking delicious!) and the flavoursome Shanghainese braised meatballs.
But if you're looking to class it up, let us draw your attention to their magical Christmas In July High Tea. With just two sessions running this Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 of July, the indulgent high tea is pulling out all the Christmas trimmings—we're talking festive cocktails (umm yes, I will have a Jingle Juice) and divine treats like prosciutto truffle double brie tart, raspberry macaroon, and pandan and coconut misu. White tablecloths, marble, jacketed wait staff and caviar bumps—Gibney is hands down the fanciest of all the venues under George Kailis' name. And honestly, it might just take the cake for 'most opulent dining destination' in all of Perth.
Tom’s Providore & Wine Bar
If you’re a Leederville local, you will probably recall the devastation felt the day we discovered the beloved Tom’s Cafe right in the heart of Oxford Street was closing down towards the start of the pandemic. But thankfully since closing the OG, the legends have come back with a new and improved Tom’s in Highgate.
