The Verdict

Mod Freo, a small cafe in Fremantle, is a no-brainer for a quick brekkie, especially when you’ve already burnt your morning omelette and can’t be bothered anymore. The cafe is a cosy spot for a (very good) coffee and some scrumptious food and the team here goes above and beyond to pimp its breakfast game with unique flavours.

The Mod Benedict, topped with creamy hollandaise and crispy jamon, is a top contender among locals for the perfect hangover cure. If you’re thinking brunch, (you’re always thinking brunch), then look no further than the sensational buttermilk fried chicken with house pickles and gravy, which easily takes the award for best comfort food.

If you’re in the mood for something sweet, Mod Freo has got you covered with their infamous fried brioche, which comes dunked in Nutella sauce poached stone fruit and golden honeycomb crumbs.

There are some delicious veggie options—we love the popular zucchini fritters with buffalo mozzarella served on a bed of mint and pea smash—and there are also some Keto options if you're into that low carb life.
