3 chicken parmi bao buns on a platter from Nik & Kolo

The Verdict

Nic & Kolo might be a fairly laid back cafe in Applecross but it has some serious fine dining clout behind it and if you don't trust us, you should be able to trust the many awards they've won. They've taken home the CIA Gold Plate Award for Licensed Cafes for the past three years and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

A hit with Applecross locals, Nic & Kolo serves up mouth-watering breakfasts, lunches and dinners from their Asian inspired menu, and being a fully licensed venue there's a whole lot of goodness available in the bevvies department, including mimosas with breakfast which is always a win.

When dawn rolls around and you can't resist your sweet tooth, Nic & Kolo's cinnamon scroll pancakes drizzled with cheesecake glaze are a must. Yes, they probably contain most of your days' worth of calories, but who cares when they taste so good.

If you prefer savoury eats in the morning, the mac and cheese eggs benedict is a cult favourite for good reason; there's a lot to like about two deep-fried mac and cheese squares topped with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, after all.

Come lunch, the star of the show is the chicken parmi bao bun. A fusion of a classic chicken parmi—mozzarella cheese and a housemade Napoletana sauce—and apple and carrot slaw and jalapeno, these soft, pillowy bao buns will satisfy all your cravings.

When dinner rolls around you can't go wrong with the pan roasted gnocchi. Served with creamy mushroom and thyme sauce, you will be scraping your plate clean. The sirloin is also a winner for the meat lovers out there.

Nic & Kolo also make a winning coffee to take away or enjoy with your meal, and on top of this, everything on the menu can be made to take-away—bacon and egg brioche bun, anyone?
