The Verdict

OPEN By Duotone in Northbridge is a leafy oasis in William Square, just off the main strip, and they're open for breakfast, lunch and every day of the week.

Korean-born owner David Yeo is the same guy behind East Perth cafe Duotone (which opened back in 2015), but he wanted to go bigger with OPEN. The menu has nods to David’s French and modern Asian background—think loaded Kimchi Fries, Karaage Fried Chicken, double-glazed pork ribs and Japanese Omurice (an umami-packed fried rice with demiglace and omelette).

But it's not just food you should be getting excited about, the team here also takes their drinks very seriously. This Wednesday 17 October they'll be releasing their OPEN house coffee blend—expect chocolate, caramel and toffee notes—and they'll be celebrating that by giving away FREE coffee all day from 6:30am to 4pm.

When it comes to cocktails, they are fruity, colourful, and come sealed in vacuum bags with a (reusable) straw poking out. Hang them upside down and they’d look like Caribbean IV drips. Our pick is the Soju Bomb. And don’t leave without trying a passionfruit panna cotta dessert.

“There aren’t many places in the city that you can go for coffee and dessert at 4pm, or dinner at 10pm,” David says. “OPEN is not just about the usual breakfast, lunch, dinner service. We’re for the in-between times too.”
