The Verdict

Don't get us wrong, we love the heritage charm of Rotto's classic bungalows, but it's impossible to ignore the luxury of Samphire Rottnest, the first and only boutique accommodation on the island.

The vibes are immaculate. Just picture coastal chic decor, lagoon-like pools, private terraces and outdoor dining areas that you'll never want to leave.

Add to this all the special little touches you expect from a good hotel like in-room massages, fluffy bath robes, room service and a very well-equipped mini bar stocked full of gourmet goodies, and you'll find it ticks all the boxes for a romantic weekend away any time of year.

Each of the 80 rooms are seriously gorgeous in their own right, but if you ask us, the beachfront rooms sitting right on Thompson Bay are where you really want to lay your head. With large outdoor areas that look right out onto the beach, it's the most blissful spot to curl up with a good book or a glass of wine.

When you are finally ready to pull yourself away from the room, you can pop down to Samphire's Isola Bar e Cibo for a spritzy Italian lunch that will make everyone think you've gone to Sicily for the weekend or try Lontara for high-end South East Asian feasting.

In the arvo you can hit up the hotel's Bayside Bar or the Beach Club for a few sundowner drinks by the fire. And in the morning there'll be an impressive brekky buffet waiting for you with all the trimmings. Who knew Rotto could be this fancy?

If you need more convincing, Samphire has a cracking Island Long Lunch package on at the moment. This 24-hour island escape for two includes return ferry tickets, a night at Samphire, arrival cocktails fireside in The Beach Club, breakfast and an indulgent long lunch with late check out. Prices start from $595 per night, depending which date you're after. Not bad once you split that between two and take into account all the inclusions. Book here.
