The Verdict
If you’re on the hunt for a pub that’s a helluva lotta fun, head on over to The Royal in Perth. The 140-year-old building’s history has been retained with the iconic verandah being restored to its former glory, and new additions have been made to give the venue variety and vibrancy.
Speaking of variety, you'll want to check out the pub menu. They’re dishing up everything from mouth-watering beef rolls with chimichurri, charred short rib and bone marrow to king prawns with tangerine vinegar butter. There's also chargrilled broccoli for the vegos out there and fries with fire dust and kewpie mayo that you'd be crazy to skip.
If you're on the hunt for specials (aren't we all?), head in on a Wednesday or Thursday night for their mid-week roast. Wednesday nights are all about roast pork belly with crackling, caramelised cabbage and boulangère potato.
If lamb's more your jam, Thursday night is for you. Think slow roasted lamb shoulder with confit baby new potatoes, glazed onions, garlic shoots and chimichurri. Pair either of them with a glass of house wine or a Balter XPA schooner and it will only set you back $25.
When it comes to drinks they've got a rotating selection of tap beers and a good list of Australian wines, not to mention the cocktails (and mocktails) that look as good as they taste.
