Move over pickleball, there’s a new racket sport making noise in Singapore, and it’s coming in fast. After helping spark the city’s pickleball boom, local sports entrepreneur Darren Teo is betting big on padel with the launch of Play! Padel Bedok, a sheltered east-side venue designed to get more players hooked on the high-energy game. Think tennis meets squash, but quicker, more tactical, and just a little bit boujee.

Teo (also the brains behind Play! Tennis and Play! Pickle) sees padel as the natural next step for Singapore’s growing court sport crowd. While pickleball opened the floodgates with its easy, social appeal, padel dials things up with faster rallies, strategic gameplay, and a steeper (but satisfying) learning curve. His new Bedok North space features both a doubles court and a mini court, with everything from casual bookings and lessons to social sessions and corporate team-building on offer.

The vibe? Still social, still beginner-friendly, but with a bit more bite. Played on an enclosed court with glass walls (yes, you can bounce shots off them), padel is all about long rallies and clever plays, making it just as fun for newbies as it is for seasoned players looking for a fresh challenge. And no, it’s not here to replace pickleball, just to give Singapore’s racket sport scene a whole new layer.

With Play! Padel Bedok now open, Teo is hoping to turn curiosity into full-blown obsession. Consider this your sign to pick up a paddle.
