If you’ve been dreaming of your next getaway, but don’t want to spend big to satisfy your wanderlust, Bonza is Australia's only low-cost, independent airline.
Launching in 2023 with its home base on the Sunshine Coast, this is everything you need to know about Bonza.
21 November - Bonza Launceston Update
Bonza’s debut into Tasmania has officially launched with the first flight from the Gold Coast to Launceston. The tri-weekly service is a welcome boost for tourism in both directions as Bonza continues its mission of stimulating new domestic tourism markets. The new service will operate on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays with fares starting from just $79 per person (one way).
15 November - Bonza Gold Coast Airport Launch
Bonza has today launched its third and latest base at Gold Coast Airport. Australia’s newest low-cost carrier will progressively introduce 14 routes over November and December to have wheels up on its newest base before the peak summer travel season.
Townsville is the first of the new Gold Coast routes to be rolled out to be followed by Albury, Avalon, Bundaberg, Cairns, Darwin, Gladstone, Launceston, Mackay, Melbourne, Mt Isa, Mildura, Rockhampton and the Whitsunday Coast. 11 out of the 14 routes are not currently serviced by any other airline. Flights on sale via the airline’s app start from $49 to $149 per person (one way).
20 September - Bonza Darwin Update
Bonza is on sale today (20 September) with its newest route from the Sunshine Coast to Darwin with flights starting from $149 per person (one way). The new route starts on 29 November and will run twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The new route comes as Bonza celebrates nine months of operations out of Sunshine Coast Airport having brought 120,000 additional visitors to the region. More details here.
25 August - Bonza Tasmania Update
Bonza takes a bite out of the ‘Apple Isle’ today (25 August) as it reveals Launceston as its newest destination with the first-ever year round direct service from the Gold Coast starting from 21 November. Flights from just $79 per person one-way are on sale now.
4 August - Bonza Gold Coast Update
Bonza is Australia’s newest and only independent low-cost carrier, operating locally on the Sunshine Coast, and also out of Gold Coast Airport and Melbourne Aiport. Bonza Gold Coast is now flying to 11 existing Bonza destinations: Albury, Bundaberg, Cairns, Gladstone, Mackay, Melbourne Avalon, Melbourne Tullamarine, Mildura, Rockhampton, Townsville and the Whitsunday Coast.
Gold Coast flights are currently on sale, with flights commencing from 1 November—just in time for summer holidays—through the airline’s app. Starting fares range from $49 to $79 per person one-way, which we think is pretty damn good value.
Bonza General Information
Bonza currently flies to 18 Australian destinations on 34 routes from its home base at the Sunshine Coast Airport, with more routes to be added late 2023. 93% of Bonza routes are currently not serviced by any airline and 96% are not serviced by a low-cost carrier, so this new airline is making some serious waves.
Bonza has spearheaded a unique strategy with direct bookings only available the Fly Bonza app, meaning flights are not available on third party websites and the airline communicates directly with customers.
In quintessential Aussie style, Bonza’s aircrafts have been named as ‘Bazza’, ‘Shazza’ and 'Sheila', which were decided by public vote. If that wasn’t enough for you, Bonza is Australia’s first airline to offer an all-Aussie food and drinks menu, with an emphasis on sourcing products from local small businesses. We’ll be ordering the aptly named ‘snag in the bag’. We promise it’s better than it sounds.
