The last month of winter is finally here. The days are getting longer, the temperature is creeping back up, and we are ready to start working off those extra “hibernating kilos”.

If you’re looking to make the most of the last days of winter, then be sure to check out the best things to do on the Sunshine Coast this August.

Sunshine Coast Marathon

A much loved event for both local running enthusiasts and interstate and international marathon fanatics, the Sunshine Coast Marathon is coming back again this August. With a range of courses for all running abilities, ages and skill levels, there’s an event for everyone. There will also be sports stalls selling active wear, sports and health products, and offering post-run massages. Whether watching or competing, you will have a great time getting involved—it’s a win-win.

Buderim Street Party

The main streets of Buderim are getting blocked off, for what’s set to be the biggest Buderim Street Party the Coast has ever seen. Featuring loads of street entertainment and food stalls that’ll have you salivating, this is easily one of the best things to do on the Sunshine Coast this month.

The Curated Plate

Set to the backdrop of rugged coastlines and lush hinterland, The Curated Plate is the Sunshine Coast’s new four-day food festival. Taking place August 8-11, The Curated Plate brings together world-class chefs to deliver a fine dining experience like never before. There’s a number of exclusive culinary events to choose from throughout the festival, each celebrating sustainable and locally-sourced produce, but among our faves are The Elements Long Lunch and Feijoa Fiesta. Japan Festival

Get cultured without even leaving the Coast. The Japan Festival is popping up in Caloundra this month and will be the ultimate coming together of delicious eats, Japanese traditions and all round good vibes. With 25 food stalls to hop between, dancing, Taiko drums, martial arts demo and so much more, lock this one in for the whole family to attend.

Noosa Open Studios

This unique experience will be perfect for anyone who loves art. Noosa Open Studios allows viewers to engage with professional artists as they work on their creations. Over 75 local artisans and artists across the Noosa region will open their studios to the public for ten days. If you’re looking for your next art fix or just love watching people create something amazing, then you’ll have a blast. Whatever you do, don’t miss a visit to Pop Art icon Peter Phillips gallery in Tinbeerwah.

Noosa Craft Beer Festival

We really lucked out this month. We have not one, but TWO craft beer festivals hitting our coastal shores this August. If you’re up the northern end of the coast, be sure to check out the 5th Noosa Craft Beer Festival. Hosted by the Noosa Reef Hotel, this festival will be a celebration of local, national and international craft beer. There will be local food trucks serving up a range of delicious eats, as well as live entertainment all day. 
When: Saturday 17 August, from 12pm to 6pm

Wild West Farm Trail

We’ve got some epic hoers and growers around the Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions, so buckle up your tractor belt and grab a barley sprig, because the Wild West Farm Trail is going to take you rural. You’ll spent the weekend visiting local farms, getting to know the farmers, and taste-testing the likes of camel milk (Camelot Dairies) and macadamias (Barenuts Macadamias).

Celebrating arts and culture, Horizon is a mammoth festival sprawling over 10 jam-packed days. With events smattered across the Sunshine Coast, from the bush to the beach, there’ll be plenty of ways you can embrace all things creative. An afternoon tea with bottomless Prosecco? Count us in! Sum Yung Guys Takeover Catalina

Two of our Noosa favourites are joining forces in August to create Sum Yung Guys Takeover Catalina. Floating along Noosa River, you can expect ridiculously tasty pan Asia fare from one of Australia’s best restaurants, smooth cocktails and a side of epic river views. Retro Rocks Nambour

Brought to you by Retro Rocks Nambour and the Nambour PCYC, the Nambour Retrofest is an annual event that is loved by locals. With Motoring Jamborees, twilight car cruises, high school hop dances, pinup competitions, fashion parades and vintage car and bike shows, this is the perfect event for anyone who loves all things vintage and retro.

Beef & Beers Festival

If you’re mad for meat, we’ve got some downright exciting news for you. An awesome meat-centric event is popping up on the Sunshine Coast this month and it’s set to be a giant foodie heaven, dishing out barbecued chews and ice cold brews to the hoards. If loading your stomach with slow-cooked morsels of deliciousness sounds like the ideal way to see out August, grab your ticket stat.
