This Jewish-born bagel shop started off as a small takeaway joint, and has now grown into a Sydney empire. Lox In A Box has locations in Marrickville, North Bondi, and Coogee, and recently opened their first full service restaurant: Bistro Bondi.
On the no-frills menu there are fine standouts like a salt-beef bagel (loaded with mustard and pickles) and a vegetarian stack pumped with actual jalapeno schmear. You can also expect the staple lox affair with one of the best herb cream-cheeses Sydney has ever been privy to.

This spot specialises in South African and Jewish bits: primarily kichel (which comes from the Yiddish word for biscuit), which are micro-thin biscuit squares dusted with sugar. These are dipped, surprisingly, with chopped herring—the sweet, sour and salty combo to rival all others.
