Crumpets—a glorious breakfast treat and the unlikely hero of your lockdown feasting. Two heavyweights in the hospo world have collab’d to bring your hungry souls the feast you never knew you needed: crumpets with a Middle Eastern twist.
By now, we hope you know all about Kepos Street Kitchen—Sydney’s Middle Eastern-inspired deli-cafe and mezze heaven. For one weekend only, the crew here has teamed up with the pioneers of fermented small-batch crumpets, Crumpets By Merna.
Merna delivers her golden discs of goodness to restaurants, cafes, and hotels all around Australia, as well as at the Carriageworks Farmers Markets every weekend (outside of lockdown). Haven't tried one? Merna’s crumpets are made with Pepe Saya Buttermilk, Australian wholemeal flour, Australian blueberries, and Olsson’s sea salt—and they will change your life.
This weekend, Kepos will be serving up Merna crumpets to-go with your choice of smoked labneh with za'atar or butter, tahini, and generous drizzles of date molasses. And good news, vegans will find plant-based Merna crumpets with tahini and date molasses on the menu too.
Breakfast boxes will be available to pre-order for $30 (filled with crumpets and all the condiments), or you can grab a six-pack of crumpets for $15 (traditional and vegan), with a six-pack of chocolate crumpets for $17 a pop.
The Kepos deli will be stocked with plenty of condiments to go with your crumpets including dips (hummus, eggplant dip, labneh, beetroot, and goats cheese, taramasalata), sweet treats to take home too.
The Crumpets By Merna pop up at Kepos Street Kitchen (Redfern) will take place this Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August, from 8am to 3pm or until sold out each day.
Now, here's all the info on Sydney's new lockdown taqueria.
