A Splendour In The Grass Pop-Up Festival Is Hitting Sydney Next Month

Splendour in the Grass—the mud, the noise, the music, and the flight to Ballina or the 12-hour road trip—is a rite of passage for us Sydney kids. With COVID still in play here in Australia, the legends behind the iconic east coast festival have come up with a few ideas to keep the vibes alive.

The first is an all-out limited-edition virtual festival called Splendour XR. Happening in July, it follows in the footsteps of Glastonbury’s digital set-up and is shaping up to be a whole lot more impressive than the ho-hum virtual gigs that graced our screens in early 2020.

Announced today, however, is a totally new IRL mini SITG festival. Called Splendour in the City, it’ll be Splendour, popping up right here in Sydney, beside the sparkly harbour, for the very first time.

Set across nine days in July and hosted at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Splendour in the City will feature 20 artists performing night-time shows across two rooms, as well as a comedy club, specialty bars, markets, and food trucks.

Basically, it’ll be a lil’ taste of Splendour to keep us firing until the main event can return to us.

On the line up are Aussie favourites like Tash Sultana, Vera Blue, and Ocean Alley, as well as Violent Soho, Dune Rats, Running Touch, and Spacey Jane.

“While we’re still working towards our Byron Bay event in November and are very grateful for the ongoing support from our Splendour community, we hope that the Splendour in the City pop up, alongside our recently announced Splendour XR virtual festival, will tide you all over in the meantime,” said co-founder Splendour in the Grass, Jessica Ducrou.

Tickets for Splendour in the City will go live tomorrow, Friday 18 June at 9am, here
