After an incredible second instalment last year, Sydney will once again get the Christmas market it truly deserves: an authentic French Christmas market, complete with pop-up French wine bars, melted cheese stations, twinkling lights, and even a nightly snowfall—and entry is totally free.

After browsing the artisan market stalls, load up on lobster rolls, oysters with champagne dressing, and crème brulée washed down with French and Aussie wines from one of the five pop-up bars (including one dedicated to champagne).

There'll be snow falling, with live Christmas jazz classics and carols at the base of the giant Christmas tree soundtracking every evening from 7pm. See the full lineup of shopping and dining stalls here.

The Rocks Christmas Markets

George Street and Playfair Street, The Rocks | Saturdays (10am–6pm) and Sundays (10am–5pm) until 24 December

Dr HJ Foley Rest Park, 140 Glebe Point Road, Glebe | Saturday 2 December, 9am–2pm

If you want to embrace the true Christmas spirit of giving this year, head straight to the Artisan Markets Glebe. Since 2018, the market has become fully incorporated as a non-profit association—meaning all purchases give back to the community.

In past years, the Artisans Market Glebe has donated to local schools, womens refuges, youth clubs, rehabilitation centres, and Indigenous education. If that isn’t enough of a reason, the markets host over 60 artisanal stalls that offer a range of handmade homewares, fashion, jewellery, and more. More info is here.

Passed: Blak Markets Christmas Edition

Bare Island | Sunday 3 December, 10am–3pm

Support First Nations creatives at Blak Markets' return to Bidjigal Country for its final instalment on Bare Island for the year, just in time for Christmas gifting. Bare Island access is normally restricted to tour groups, so this is a perfect reason to explore the beauty of Kamay Botany Bay National Park.

There'll be handcrafted items from Indigenous artists, designers and small businesses alongside
homemade baked goods and sausage sizzles showcasing Indigenous flavours and ingredients,
and top-notch skincare products and native plants from IndigiGrow, with 100 per cent of sales going directly to the maker.

There'll be a traditional welcome by Aunty Barb Simms and a smoking ceremony at 11am, plus dance performances by Djiriba Waagura, singing by Marcus Corowa, and free weaving workshops run
by Malima throughout the day. Entry is $2.50.
