The MINI Edition | Top 10 Things To Do In Sydney This April

Written by: Sophia Fukunishi

A new month is upon us (we know, how is it already April?!) and we’ve teamed up again with our friends at MINI to track down the top ten best things to do in Sydney this month.

We’ve got new Sydney restaurants, a tonne of fun events and even a cheeky burger or two – so what are you waiting for? Get out of the house, because April is going to be one helluva month! Who misses summer anyway?

So what’s on our hit list of things to do in Sydney this April?

10. Brunch is sorted at Blacksmith

Making everything in house (including their sourdough bread and black forest cakes), the guys at Sydney café, Blacksmith, have got your Surry Hills breakfast and lunch needs deliciously sorted. With coffee from Toby’s Estate to get you through the day and a new liquor license to get you through Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, we know where we’ll be most days.

9. Sing along with Josh Pyke and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra

Australian singer/songwriter, Josh Pyke, is on regular rotation at The Urban List HQ, and much to our delight is performing at the Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday 29th April. It’s bound to be an epic gig and one well worth scoring tickets to (we’re predicting this one will sell out, so get in quickly!).

8. A day of indulgence at AnnanROMA Food and Wine Festival

Held in picturesque Mount Annan in Sydney’s Macarthur region, the AnnanROMA Food and Wine Festival is set to be bigger and better than ever (read: boozier and more delicious). Showcasing local food producers, restaurants and wineries from the area, settle in by the lake and while away the afternoon with a wine in hand.

7. Hellooo 63 degree egg at Harry’s Bar & Dining

Oh you lucky people of Bondi, the food offering in your beachside suburb is becoming better and better (and it’s not all raw and vegan). Harry’s Bar & Dining is one of Bondi’s newest restaurants and has already become a hit with the locals. Get ready to hashtag #yolkporn (yes, that’s a thing) when you order their crispy rolled egg with black bean and chorizo.

6. Head to Watsons Bay for a bit of Shakespeare By The Bay

For things to do in Sydney that involve a bit of arts and culture, head to the iconic Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel for Shakespeare By The Bay. From 10th – 12th and 17th – 19th April, pick up a picnic hamper, a bottle of wine and watch A Mid Summer Night’s Dream (aka our favourite Shakespeare play) while the sun goes down over the harbour.

5. Go in on a burger at Cheekyburger Bar

Okay, so it’s no surprise that we go a little barmy over burgers so we were pretty darn excited when Cheekyburger Bar opened their doors in Paddington. A contender for one of Sydney’s best burgers, we can’t think of many things we love more than hoeing into a cheeseburger, fries and rounding it all off with an Oreo shake.

4. Get giggly at the 11th Annual Sydney Comedy Festival

Who doesn’t like to laugh? And don’t say yourself because we know that’s a lie. The 11th annual Sydney Comedy Festival is back and we can confirm it’s a hilarious line up. With a whole host of local and international acts, head to their website to decide who’ll be giving you the giggles this year.

3. Buckets of Korean fried chicken at Chicken Institute

Did someone say Korean Fried Chicken? Well, we did and we’re surprised you understood us with our mouths full of the stuff. For those who love the deep fried bird, you’ll find your new chickeny home at new Sydney restaurant Chicken Institute. Oh, and they also serve goldfish waffles that you eat with gloved hands (refer to the above video for proof)!

2. Easter Feastival at Sydney Fish Market

In a very convenient move for seafood aficionados, Sydney Fish Market will be holding an Easter Feastival where you can shop their extended trading hours (5am to 5pm on Good Friday) while enjoying onsite entertainment, face painting and an appearance from the Easter bunny “for the kids.” We know where we’ll be stocking up on our seafood supplies this Easter long weekend!

1. Light it up at Electric Run

Probably the best 5kms you will ever run in your life, Electric Run Sydney is an electric wonderland filled with lights, glowsticks, music and a whole lotta people having the time of their lives. To register for this light-hearted event (and to get discounts for those doing it in a team), head to the website, like, right now!

Can't wait to hit up all the events this month? Well why not WIN somethin' while you do?! Simply Instagram and tag @miniaustralia and #theminiedition when you are at any of the events or locations, and you’ll be in the draw to win a glorious $300 to spend on food and drinks at Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel!
