Expect two barns, one housing an open plan cookhouse and lounge with smoky leather couches. The other, boasting three king size bedrooms so there’s room enough for ten.

You’ve also got a Western cowboy bathhouse with a custom stone bath, and outside you’ll find more than just horses you’re welcome to feed at carrot-munching time. There’s a luxe tiled Magnesium pool, a rustic outdoor bath,  a bocce court and of course the obligatory firepit for those starry, starry nights.

It’s been restored into a rustic cottage that still maintains the history and character of the old barn—and your hosts provide some tempting little extras that will level up your holiday game.

Two words: cheese platter. For an additional fee you can delve into a deluxe cheese plate with your special someone, and your hosts also offer special occasion picnics that can be enjoyed under the grand fig tree in the Glenroy Homestead Gardens.

The adults-only cottage is lovely and private, offering peaceful views of grazing cattle and a  large undercover outdoor entertainment area that’ll inspire you to get the barbecue sizzling. We love that there’s a hot outdoor shower to indulge in at this place too, and a fire pit to snuggle up around later once the sun sets.

Steps away from Purling Brook Falls hiking trail sits this hidden Gold Coast gem. Water & Woods is just 50 minutes from the bright lights of Surfer’s Paradise and 90 from Brisbane, and yet here you’re surrounded by rainforest.

It has heaps of nooks and crannies to while away some hours with a good book. First stop on the trip to cosy central? The undercover outdoor bath which looks out over towering tree trunks and lush greenery (the champions that own this cabin provide organic bath soap for you to use).

We bet you’ll want to gather around the indoor fireplace or the outdoor chiminea too, or grab the portable picnic set and set off for the lookout with cheese, crackers and a bottle of the good stuff.

Once a church, the stay has been transformed into the ultimate luxurious country escape away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Once you arrive, enjoy mountain views and explore the surrounding farmland, then cruise on out to the firepit night after night to stare at the stars.

For those of you who are cocktail or wine enthusiasts, you’ll be happy to know the bar is stocked with every glass imaginable.

Just two hours out of Brisbane’s CBD, Rangeview Cottage is a 100-year-old worker’s cottage that has retained the charm and ambiance of the original Queenslander.

Your Airbnb has several outdoor dining spots nestled in the cottage’s gardens surrounded by hills and mountains, so we suggest bringing a recipe book to cook up a storm (or if cooking isn’t your idea of relaxation, we’re giving you permission to just order take-out) and dine under the stars at each spot.

If you’re down to explore the area, we suggest heading to the famous Eumundi Markets, Noosa or surrounding national parks.

Currumbin Valley | Sleeps 8

Hillview Dairy

  • Country-style living room with fireplace and balcony at Hillview Dairy

It’s fair to say that Hillview Dairy has found itself on a few “Best Of” lists over the years. It’s no surprise. This 1887 cabin is a true delight for the senses. It overlooks the escarpment of Mt Tallebudgera and Currumbin Creek in the Gold Coast hinterland and retains a magical air of history.

You’ll find cows, horses, chickens and farm dogs at this Queensland stay, and that’s all before you’ve even stepped foot inside the front door. The property itself is seriously pretty, so you won’t be surprised to hear it’s sought after for location shoots—and, of course, it’s pet-friendly so your furry fave one can come too.

Have a soak in the “under the stars” luxury bathroom, or cosy up on one of the cowhide chairs and bathe in the warmth of the indoor fireplace. There’s a private magnesium plunge pool for your use during your stay (told you this place was one of the best), plus two retro cruiser bikes with helmets. Epic.

Haigslea | Sleeps 6

Linning's House

  • Linning's House country house stay near Brisbane

From the bright and breezy country kitchen to the enticingly moody lounge with its pressed metal ceiling and pot belly fireplace, this eclectic 1880s-built Queenslander makes for an alluring country getaway.

You’re just over 60 minutes from Brisbane at this pad on Twigley Farm, and the place is so adorable even the bedrooms have names. Marigold’s the top spot, with her king bed and private ensuite with clawfoot bath, but there’s also the sweetly named Wren and Artist, each featuring queen beds and luxury linen (plus all rooms have private French doors leading to the wraparound verandah).

If you’re not admiring the view, glass of wine in hand, take a stroll to your own private firepit and patio, where you’ll find a lounge and barbecue just waiting for the night’s feast.

A seriously squishy leather-look lounge, a bathtub big enough for two, uninterrupted views and a backyard scattered with cows. A stay at Burgess Cottage gets you country vibes galore.

Occupying a spot at Bald Knob, less than two hours’ drive from Brisbane, this two-bedroom home is one of the most beloved on Airbnb. You’ll find it hard to tear your eyes from the epic vista—which spans from the Pacific Ocean to the fabulously pointy Glass House Mountains.

If you’re a lover of stunning sunsets, you’ll never want to leave this place. Grab a drink and mosey on down to the firepit for an evening to remember.

Crows Nest | Sleeps 8

Bunnyconnellen Homestead

You get two for one at this hidden gem which was once a dairy farm, an olive grove and winery. Your country stay consists of an 1880s farmhouse, plus an additional self-contained cottage, meaning there’s heaps of space to bring the whole crew. The Homestead is the heart of this Queensland stay—featuring two bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living areas and two dining spaces. In fact, there’s so many nooks and crannies here you might have trouble rounding up the gang come cocktail time.

Outside, you’ll find the super cute Hillview Cottage, with its queen bed, kitchenette and wood-fired stove, plus extensive gardens and a flock of resident Merino sheep. Once you’ve explored everything your accommodation has to offer, grab your bathers and head for the lap pool where you’re welcome to take a dip or lounge in the sun.
