Needless to say, the Anyday group—who are behind Brisbane institutions like Agnes and sAme sAme—have been busy for the past several months. First, there was the New Farm neighbourhood cafe, Idle. Then there was the lush Middle Eastern oasis Golden Avenue. The tail end of last year brought in heritage bistro The French Exit. And now, their CBD takeover continues with a new cocktail bar made for nightcaps and visits that linger just a little longer.

This is Le Royale.

Located upstairs from The French Exit on a heritage corner of Mary Street, Le Royale’s point of difference lies in its entertainment—with three rotating live house bands providing the backdrop to your after-dark rendezvous from Thursday to Saturday.

“In one word, Le Royale is fun,” said Anyday co-founder, Tyron Simon. “The kind of fun that feels both rare and effortless. You might walk in thinking you will go in just for one drink, but stay because the band starts playing a song you didn’t know you missed, then the whole energy of the room just pulls you in.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Anyday venue without a menu that’s curated to knock your socks off and at Le Royale that takes shape in their cocktail offering led by flavour, seasonality and precision. Pouring spirits hand-selected from local distributors or carefully sourced from abroad, each cocktail offers a unique impression with a name that nods to cinema and is best ordered with a side of theatrics—think I Wanna Dance, I Wanna Win (mango, Jin Xuan tea, Anyday gin, Champagne) or Oh Man, I Shot Marvin In The Face (raspberry, Johnnie Walker double black scotch, Rhubi, rich apera, tarragon, smoke).

Small plates are the go here, drawing culinary inspiration from The French Exit below in refined classics and familiar favourites like steak tartare with pommes gaufrettes, chicken liver parfait served in an eclair and French fries—because what else are you really craving on a late night? There’s also the signature Le Royale with Cheese (get it) and those with a sweet tooth can enjoy made-to-order madeleins or housemade soft serve with the menu served on Fridays and Saturdays until 1:30am.

Le Royale can accommodate up to 120 guests within its moody and elegant fitout, with a glowing carved giallo sienna marble bar anchoring the space. The lighting is delightfully dim, the seating is plush and a rich burgundy echoes throughout like something straight from a curtain call.
