Meat lovers, if you’ve yet to check out Racecourse Road’s Flaming & Co, it’s time you booked yourself a table. This Hamilton eatery is cooking everything over fire, with their huge hearth easily visible in the open kitchen as soon as you walk in, and locally sourced proteins of course taking pride of place.

With just a handful of bar stools lining the sleek bar inside the narrow restaurant, the majority of Flaming & Co’s seating is outside in their cosy laneway, where you can enjoy the river breezes while soaking up Racecourse Road’s nightly buzz. Fairy lights and table lamps add to the romantic vibe, but while it’s perfect for date night, you may want to bring a bigger crew to share their signature dishes—the saucy dry-aged whole smoked duck to share between three or four is an absolute must-order

Before you get to that though, you’ll want to start with snacks like beef tartare on crispy rice crackers, ocean trout croquettes and seared scallops on smooth cauliflower mash. One of the few restaurants in Brisbane serving kangaroo (and doing it well), their grilled kangaroo starter is melt-in-your-mouth, paired with duck fat carrot and morcilla.

If you’re not quite up to the whole smoked duck, other main options include a Hawkesbury duck leg with parsnip and chard or a Wagyu rump cap steak paired with grilled cabbage and red wine jus. You can pair it all with their selection of wines, beers and classic cocktails, and cap the night off with grilled pineapple and lemongrass mousse for dessert.
