My Mistress
The Verdict
Everything about this warm, earthy northside cafe is fun and laid back, including the My Mistress menu. If you’re in the mood for something light, consider a ‘Cheeky Fling’ like Middle Eastern fruit load with ricotta and seasonal compote or an acai bowl with seasonal market fruit. After something a little more serious? Why not get involved in a ‘Main Affair’ including the aptly named Eggs Marilyn or Eggs Monica, both being a clear and hilarious reference to two women famous for their affairs.
Bonus, after scoring themselves a liquor license, the north side venue is now open evenings from Thursday to Saturday, with a menu of cheeky cocktails and Asian-inspired tapas. As you’d expect from a cafe where the breakfasts have names like One Night Stand and Morning Glory, the cocktails are equally as risque, with sips like Booty Call, a concoction of Melbourne Moonshine apple mash, wattle toffee liqueur and espresso. To eat, you can snack on Moreton Bay bug banh mis, pulled bulgogi pork and kimchi croquette and beef tataki. Is it acceptable to visit twice in one day? We sure think so.
