5 Awesome Things to do in Melbourne This Week

By Clare Acheson - 29 Jun 2015

Looking for things to do in Melbourne this week? Of course you are! Get ready for a meaty, musical and, um, philosophical week in Melbourne, Listers. Diaries out, ‘cos here are our top five things to pencil in for the next few days.

Monday 29

Yup, that’s right. Brisbane’s finest four-piece, The Jungle Giants, are out and touring again, and you’re gonna want to book in fast because this one is guaranteed to be a sell-out! The Jungle Giants are hitting the road in celebration of their latest album, Speakerzoid, due out 7th August, and they’ll be playing in Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on Saturday 12th September. If you missed them at Howler last month, this is your chance to see the indie crew before they inevitably make it big-time and start playing massive arenas where you’ll be, like, 10km away from the action. Get your ticket for their September date here.

Wednesday 1

The Gem Bar & Dining Room’s rib night is a finger-lickin’ good foodie fixture for all you barbecue lovers. Everything you’ll find here is cooked Texan-style in only the best smokers, and trust us, the ribs are out-of-this-world delicious. If you’re bringing a crowd (which you should, obvs, because more people = more BBQ dishes to try), make sure you book a table so you don’t have to wait around for your rib action to start. Go hungry, thirsty and ready to get messy!

Thursday 2

Melbourne’s best butcher, Peter Bouchier, is giving all you meat-loving folk the chance to learn how to make your own sausages! Not only will Peter and his award-winning team of butchery ninjas show you how its done, you’ll also be treated to a delicious banquet, matched with Fowles Wine and 2 Brothers Brewery’s beers. Plus you’ll leave being able to make your own sausages.   The perfect skill to tide you through winter, and to whip out at that first BBQ of spring. Book your spot here.

If you’re the sort of person who cringes every time you find yourself answering a question with, ‘uh-huh’, ‘yeah,’ or ‘um, like, lol,’ and then fading into conversational oblivion, then you’re going to want to book into The School of Life’s session about How To Have Better Conversations. One of our top things to do in Melbourne this week that doesn’t revolve around food and drink. Well, maybe. The last time we were here, they did do a good cheese platter…Book your place here.

Friday 3

Melbourne’s coolest independent magazine The Lifted Brow is throwing a party at Brunswick institution Howler this Friday to celebrate the launch of its latest issue. Not only will you be able to pick up a copy of the journal, which is packed full of awesome articles, fiction, imagery and reviews, but you’ll also be treated to music thanks to the team at Bedroom Suck Records, as well as Howler’s usual tasty food and epic beverages. A steal at $14 a ticket. Get some cultcha in ya, folks!
