You’d think since it’s already August the weather would be a little warmer, no? But apparently Melbourne has other plans for us, folks. No matter. Just because the weather is crappy doesn’t mean your week has to be. You could splurge on a truffle dinner, hit up a food truck fest, or venture to the European Night Markets for some fondue. Who said weekdays are boring?
Here’s five awesome things to do in Melbourne this week.
We were all pretty devastated when the 20,000 love locks were removed from the Southbank footbridge, but now we can see these locks given a second life! Six of Melbourne’s best artists have collaborated to repurpose these locks, and the exhibition is kicking off this Monday! Each artist will exhibit the locks in their own unique way at the Melbourne Town Hall – so you should probably lock...this one in (we’re looking at you, hopeless romantics).
Massi Truffle Dinner
Truffle season is coming to an end (devo), and the team at Massi are shouting one last hoorah with a dinner dedicated to these precious, black morsels. Not only do you get to indulge in classic Italian cuisine, but each dish will be enhanced with truffles. Think agnolotti with brown butter and truffles, and chocolate tartufo to finish off! Each dish will be matched with unique vinos, so you’re in for a real treat. The truffle dinners will run this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - and you can reserve your spot here.
The Food Truck Festival
The Food Truck Fest is back at the Coburg Village Drive In this August, so you’ll get to enjoy the latest blockbusters along with some delicious food truck feasts! Running this Wednesday (screening Suicide Squad) and Thursday (screening Sausage Party), the fest promises to delight with a bunch of our favourite food trucks. St Kilda Burger Bar, Nuts-About-Tella and Two Fat Indians will all be making appearances – so it’s deffs not a night to be missed.
Glow Winter Arts Festival
The City of Stonnington is lighting up from this Thursday! The Glow Winter Arts Festival will be running for its third year, and will go until August 21st. There are be both free and ticketed events, and will consist of five core events. Names such as Claire Hooper, Luke McGregor and Tom Gleeson will be performing at the Glow Comedy Club. Greville Projections (think light installations and projections) will be lighting up the streets, and food trucks will be there to cover your appetite while you check out everything on offer! The perfect way to celebrate the last month of winter in style.
European Night Market
This is the last week we get to enjoy the European Night Market in Madame Brussels Lane, so if you haven’t had a chance to make it down thus far, this is your last chance. Grab your winter woollies and get your butts off the couch, because turning up will make for one hella’ Friday night. You can enjoy sweet treats from The Brûlée Cart, Polish pierogi from EasternBloc and cheesy fondue from Frencheese. Yep, sounds like our kind of end-of-week feed. There’s also mulled wine and cider on hand to keep you toasty!
