5 Awesome Things To Do This Week In Melbourne

By James Shackell - 26 Feb 2018

How’s the head this morning, Melbourne? Big weekend? It’s all good, we’ll type quietly.

This week’s looking like the usual Melbourne madness. We’ve got gin dinners, oysters by the dozen, some weird meditation class and (strangest of all) thousands of people gathering in Fed Square to say ‘Wow!’ like Owen Wilson. We’ll explain...

Here’s 5 Awesome things to do this week in Melbourne.

Monday 26 February

Say ‘Wow’ Like Owen Wilson

We covered this last week, and we’re still 10% sure the whole thing is an elaborate social prank. Basically thousands of people are gathering in Fed Square tonight to say ‘Wow!’ like Owen Wilson says wow. That’s it. That’s the whole event. After we published, other Wow events quickly sprouted up in Sydney and Perth. This thing might go global...

Where: Federation Square, CBD
When: 6pm Monday 26 February

Sound Healing Meditations

You guys will like this—there’s a group hosting weekly ‘Sound Healing Sessions’ down at St Kilda Beach. What does that mean? Bloody good question. Apparently it’s going to involve two hours of ‘deep release’ and ‘soul cleansing’ as your earbuds are massaged with ‘binaural solfeggio sounds, theta and delta waves’. Err, okay?

Where: West Beach Bathers Pavilion, St Kilda
When: 7:30pm, Monday 26 February

Wednesday 28 February

Henry Sugar Gin Dinner

Wednesday date night? We’ve got just the thing. Henry Sugar in Carlton is hosting booze legends Simon Ford and Charles Maxwell for an epic gin night. There’s gonna be a 5-course dinner, gin cocktails out the wazoo, and lots of people nodding and saying the word ‘botanicals’. Romantic AF.

Where: Henry Sugar, 296 Rathdowne St
When: 7pm – 10pm, Wednesday 28 February

One Buck Oyster Shuck

Pretty much what it sounds like. The Smith on High St is slinging freshly shucked oysters with lemon, shallot and red wine vinaigrette for just $1. You can get ‘em up at the bar, in the Atrium or the Atrium lounge between 4pm and 8pm. Get shuckin’.

Where: The Smith, 213 High St Prahran
When: 4pm – 8pm, Wednesday 28 February

Friday 2 March

Mrs Doubtfire Pop-Up Cinema

This is the best thing to come out of the Docklands since...nope, we can’t think of anything. Park Cinema Docklands are screening beloved 90s classic Mrs Doubtfire this Friday at 7pm. Even better? It’s 100% FREE. Leave work early if you want to snag a deckchair.

Where: Buluk Park, 894 Collins St Docklands
When: 7pm, Friday 2 March
