Things To Do

Catch Rhys Nicholson And Anne Edmonds At This Night Of Dark Comedy And Rum

By

Clear your calendars for a night of daringly dark jokes from the depths of humour as The Kraken Black Spiced Rum's Darkest Show returns for a second year. Touching down in the edgiest venues of Melbourne and Sydney, a stellar lineup of comedic icons will take to the stage with their darkest humour. And as twisted as this night has the potential to get, it’s a guaranteed good time for you and the crew.

Daniel Muggleton—also known as the foul-mouthed prophet in a tracksuit—will be taking the reins as MC, carrying you through a night that truly pushes the boundaries of humour. But the comedic gold doesn’t start and end with Muggleton. Greg Larsen, Anne Edmonds and Rhys Nicholson—aka Australia's gods of dark comedy—are packed and prepared to join the lineup with some of some of their darkest jokes yet.

Best known for his work portraying Ethan Krum in the BBC One drama thriller series The Tourist, Greg Larsen is a Melbourne-born and bred self-described useful idiot, and world-famous in the dark comedy scene. Anne Edmonds, known for her stand-up comedy and ABC show The Edge of the Bush, is expected to draw from her suburban background to bring a bold, self-deprecating, and mysterious style to the stage. Rounding off the night with an award-winning performance, you'll hear from astute satirist and the winner of the Most Outstanding Show at Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Rhys Nicholson.

Sydneysiders can find this legendary crew under the dim lights of the effortlessly cool Mary’s Underground on 10 July. And for rum lovers residing in Melbourne, the show lands at late-night Fitzroy favourite, The Night Cat on 17 July.

While you’re marvelling at the mortifying punch lines of these comedic wizards, you’ll be treated to a delicious Kraken Black Spiced Rum cocktail on arrival, along with a suite of premix drinks available to purchase at the bar.

These dark and stormy tipples will be paired with a specially curated food menu designed to match the mood. In Sydney, Mary's will be serving up the juiciest of burgers encased in a pillowy charcoal bun, with cauliflower nuggs and Kraken hot sauce-coated jerk chicken. Down in Melbourne, they'll be spicing things up with tasty tacos from Dingo Ate My Taco's roving food van.
