Ah sweet cravings, you strike at the most inconvenient times, don’t you? The uncontrollable urge to demolish something chocolate covered/caramel drizzled/baked with love/all of the above generally kicks in after 9pm—just when most of our city’s eateries have closed their doors. Booo!

But there’s no need to scrape the dregs of that Nutella jar. Some of Auckland’s after-hour eateries understand that late-night dessert cravings are real. From fancy dessert dens to ice cream hubs, here are 10 places to get late-night dessert in Auckland. Thank us later.

Britomart & Auckland City

Dessert all day and all night is what Miann is about and boy, oh boy are we grateful. With two handy locations—Britomart and Fort Street—Miann whips up scrumptious gelato sticks, beautifully plated desserts, dinky bon bons, petit gateaux and their weekly sundaes. They make magic with seasonal produce and there will be something new to try each time you visit.

The Dairy

The Dairy in Ponsonby Central are known for their EPIC toasted sandwiches and other cheesy creations, but when the day turns into night, it’s the desserts that have our attention. Grab a scoop from their ice cream counter or, better yet, get on the ice cream sammie buzz. Their apple churros with salted caramel sauce are a winner and if you want to go all out, the toasted brioche s’mores can’t be missed. We’re talking dark choc, salted popcorn, banana, homemade marshmallow and mascarpone between toasted brioche. Oh lordy.

Auckland City

Giapo, Giapo, you continue to impress us. Make your way to this late-night dessert hub and you’ll be treated to ice creams topped with doughnuts, hand-torched meringue and other mind-blowing bits and bobs. Heck, you can even replace the cone with a Yorkshire pudding. Whatever you order, your sweet teeth will be very, VERY happy.

Chocolate Boutique

Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. What more could we ask for? Parnell’s Chocolate Boutique is home to hundreds of decadent chocolates, old school lollies and the kinda desserts that hit the late-night spot. Think sticky date pud, berry waffles, chocolate fondue, banana spilt and Death by Chocolate—a chocolate dessert to rule them all.

The Fed

Auckland City

Poutine, bagels and hot wings aside, The Fed’s ‘late shift’ menu features their stellar sweet line-up. Until 1am on Friday and Satruday (and 11pm on other nights), you can chow down on NY cheesecake, pumpkin pie, banana toffee pie and lemon meringue pie, washed down with a PB and choc thickshake or bottomless filter coffee. Being a night owl has it perks.

After you’ve gorged yourself on prawn dumplings, pork and shrimp shao mai and steamed pork buns, get amongst Xuxu’s dessert dumplings. Choose between gooey chocolate fondant encased in sweet pumpking pastry or salted caramel and banana banoffee. Wash it down with a cocktail or two and you’ll be a happy camper.

Late Night Dessert Delivery

Can’t be faffed leaving the house but your sweet tooth won’t budge? No drama. Auckland has a late-night dessert delivery service! Yep, you lucky North Shore bunch can have cheesecakes (Nutella, white choc berry, New York or Tim Tam), shakes and brownies delivered right to your door thanks to SweetAs. The best bit? The cheesecakes come by the slice so you can order one of each!

OKO Dessert Kitchen

Auckland City

If a rowdy night out in town isn’t cutting the mustard, ditch the club and make your way to OKO Dessert Kitchen for a taste of the good life. Sitting in Aotea Square, this delicious spot takes the late-night dessert life seriously. There’s a selection of waffles (our pick is the lemon meringue pie flavour), cabinet desserts, freakshakes and Chef’s Desserts. Their signature steaming volcano is something to rave about. Think caramelia mousse, dark chocolate crumble and a brownie base with hot chocolate ‘lava’. Mmm.

Mt Eden

Ah, Frasers. We can always rely on you for our late-night cake fix. While the restaurant has been revamped, the classic cakes remain (thank goodness!) and doesn’t disappoint. From banoffee pie and Bailey’s cheesecake to lemon meringue and the classic New York baked cheesecake, Frasers is a slice of Mt Eden dessert heaven.
