As the end of the year approaches, excessive planning of how we’re gonna make the most of our Christmas and New Year’s has begun to take over our minds. But hey! That doesn’t mean you should save treating yourself for that end of December period we all love so much. Uh Uh. No way.
Auckland is providing the goods this week, with plenty of awesome ways you can embrace the holiday spirit (even if it’s not technically the hols juuust yet). Besides, by the time December comes around you’ll be an expert in all things celebratory. Practice makes perfect, right?
Monday 30 October
Cocktails At Bedford Soda House
Got the Monday blues? Never fear. Here at the Urban List, we’ve got the perfect solution. Head down to Bedford Soda House and let happiness make its way back into your soul as you test out their delish cocktail menu! Our fave remains the strawberry and coconut frappe, available with or without rum. Although at the start of a new week, so let’s be real: we want the rum. And it’s now not such a bad start, if we do say so ourselves!
Wednesday 1 November
The Botanical Bazaar Auckland
Get ready, Aucklanders. Our favourite pop-up is back and it’s better than ever! Brought to us by Bombay Sapphire, this unmissable event showcases carefully curated and wonderfully vibrant cocktails and of course, delish eats. Mastering mouth-watering flavours and undeniable Insta-worthiness, the Botanical Bazaar takes inspiration from the markets and trade route of Silk Road. One thing’s for sure—you don’t want to miss out on this. Trust us.
Horror Fest NZ – Drive-In Movie And Horror Maze
Ah, Halloween. How we pine for the low-key post-traumatic stress it brings. Well, we’ve got great news. For one terrifying week, you can enjoy not only the weird thrill that is Halloween but pretend you’re starring in Grease. Drive-in movie anyone? ASB Showgrounds is being transformed into a petrifying horror festival. The event will showcase the best of horror-flicks, special effects, an interactive maze and an added bonus of yummy Hellz Pizza (which fittingly will be delivered to your car by Zombies). This one is not for the faint of heart… grab your bestie or your s/o and be on standby to pay for their doctor’s appointment (there’s a high likelihood of squeezing their hand a little too tight). Eeeek!
Thursday 2 November
Bic Runga And Special Guests
Celebrate Thursday the right way this week and grace your deserving ears with the lovely voice of Kiwi icon, Bic Runga. An evening worth remembering is guaranteed as the concert will showcase not only her Drive album but her classic hits that all us New Zealanders know so well. And to make it even better (if possible?!) joining her for a duet is New Zealand artist Aaradhna. Tickets are selling like hotcakes, so get yourself one pronto!
Day of The Dead
Forget the freaky, the Day of The Dead is all about celebrating the lives of those who have now departed. Join the team at Mexico for one of their famous Margarita Masterclasses where you get to learn from the best and of course have a few cheeky margaritas yourself plus some delish Mexican cuisine. Get your tickets quick, these babies aren’t gonna last long!
