While the rest of us have been stressing out about the Rona and various alert levels, Hamilton natives and the legends that are Duck Island Ice Cream have been quietly eyeing their next expansion project.
While Duck Island has been available at various supermarkets and Moore Wilson’s in Wellington, we’re beyond excited to announce that they’re opening one of their fabled ice cream stores right in the heart of the Windy City.
For the uninitiated, Duck Island Ice Cream started as a small scoop shop in Hamilton and after opening two stores there, they made the move to Auckland, opening their Ponsonby flagship and then the Newmarket branch to much collective delight.
Duck Island is not your typical run-of-the-mill scoop shop, oh no. Constantly innovating, they have a roster of 26 flavours available to try on any given day and these drool-worthy flavours are the real stars of the show here. Combining elements that sound oh so wrong but taste next level, you’ll find the likes of their famous roasted white chocolate and miso, banana brulee ginger swirl and boysenberry cheesecake (pictured above). They’ve even made a pickle-flavoured ice cream in the past.
Vegetarian and vegan friends are also well catered for but don’t expect your average vego-friendly fare here either. From apricot cardamom yoghurt to strawberry coconut lime leaf and—our personal fave—salted chocolate brownie, these gems will salve whatever you’re craving.
Choose a cup or a cone—or two, we’ll not judge—we guarantee once you’ve had a taste, you’ll be back.
