If you think you’ve ‘done’ Margaret River, think again. We’ve got your next Margaret River region trip sorted. Take your pick from the newest and most awesome experiences that we’ve rounded up below. The best bit? You’ll be one of the first to try them, so get set for your socials to go wild when others get wind of the epic adventures they didn’t realise existed down south.

Top tip: if you get your bookings in before the end of October, you can even use your Wander voucher. Could there be a better time to Wander out yonder?

Stay In Style And Learn The Vino Lingo

For luxury beachside accommodation, Smith Beach Resort has long been a favourite. But there are plenty of good reasons to return for a visit now. The resort has just finished a top-to-toe soft refurbishment, so each apartment is looking brand spanking new and filled with all the luxury mod-cons you could think of. Wine enthusiasts also have an extra reason to stay, with the addition of a new four-hour wine masterclass available to book in the comfort of your apartment for 6-10 guests. Wine expert and educator Charlotte Newton will show you how to taste wine like a pro as you compare Margaret River wines with international wine regions and learn all about how to pick up on the stylistic differences. It’s sure to come in handy next time you pull in for a cellar door tasting!

Take A Sparkling Flight In A Wine Chapel

While air travel is limited, take a flight of a different kind by booking ‘The Art of Sparkling’ at  Howard Park’s Wine Chapel. What better way to kick off a holiday in Margs than with a glass of bubbles… or five? We’ll happily visit the chapel for a Sunday service when it includes méthode traditionnelle bubbles. Plus you also get to learn all about the nuanced differences between the vineyards from Margaret River, the Great Southern and France so you may as well put this down as an educational expense. Add in a charcuterie plate and rolling views of vineyards, and you’ll think your prayers have been answered.

Get Stuck Into Nougat And Wine Pairing

French-style nougat was born in the 18th century in Montélimar, France, so it makes sense that it should pair perfectly with the French grape varieties that do so well in Margaret River. Bettenay’s Margaret River has taken things one step further with their wine and nougat matching session. It’s a sweet-toothed wine lovers dream—you can even stay the night in the lakeside accommodation if you’d like to drift off into a nougat-induced sleep.

Stroll, Swing, And Graze The Day Away

The new(ish) cellar door at Swings and Roundabouts has taken things next level when it comes to being on-brand—you can now drink and dine on a swing here. We probably wouldn’t recommend doing the same on a roundabout but we’re definitely down for a swing. If you want to make a day of it, book their new Swings Backyard Stories cellar door experience and head off on a guided stroll through the vineyard’s 40-year-old dry grown Cabernet Sauvignon vines, before perching on your swinging seat to enjoy a grazing feast and selection of Backyard Stories wines.

Do Boranup Forest On Horseback

Is this the most beautiful horse ride in the world? Well, that’s certainly what we've overheard guests saying. Head out and see the beauty of Boranup like never before—on horseback. The crew at Jesters Flat will take you for a two-hour ride, so long as you have basic riding skills (this isn’t a ride for absolute beginners). Get set to meander through the Karri tree canopy, gaze down across shady glens of wildflowers, explore caves you didn’t know existed and trot along off-the-beaten-track trails.

Sip And Save The Possums

Help save Western Australia’s critically endangered possums by drinking wine (yes, really). Passel Estate is named after the sweet, and critically endangered, marsupials—a passel is a family of possums. Book their wine and nature experience and you’ll enjoy a guided walk through the nature sanctuary to learn all about the Western Ringtail Possum and its natural habitat. Afterwards, enjoy a guided wine tasting and a relaxing afternoon in the Estate’s tranquil Tasting Room. The best bit? Just by booking this tour, you’ll be financially supporting the possum rehabilitation program at Passel Estate, with $60 from every booking going directly towards further conservation efforts.

Let Someone Else Pack The Picnic

Windows Estate is tucked away off Caves Road and is the perfect spot for a secluded picnic. The cellar door team have stepped things up a notch recently, with a full set-up ready for you on arrival. Book in advance, and you’ll find your delish picnic hamper (packed with local goodies) waiting for you on an array of rugs and cushions in a picturesque corner of the Estate. Get in before fire season, and you’ll be lucky enough to enjoy an open fire for toasting apples and honey at your chosen spot.

Enjoy The Ultimate Cruisy Day Outdoors

Dunsborough’s Bike Hike Swim pretty much sums up what you’ll be in for when you book a tour with them! Their namesake tour is the coolest new way to spend an idyllic day around Dunsborough’s turquoise waters. Over two hours you’ll fit in an ocean dip at four of the region’s best beaches, along with about 25 minutes of cycling and a relaxed 2km hike. Along with all that action, you’ll also pick up plenty of local knowledge and history of Dunsborough, and its local flora and fauna.

Margaret River is just one stop on Australia’s most Instagrammable road trip. If you’ve been living under a rock and not yet heard of The South West Edge, head on over and check out more adventures and itineraries en-route here.
