Living in Western Australia, we are blessed with endless adventures on our doorstep. Whether it’s exploring our beautiful coastline and beaches, immersing yourself in Mother Nature’s many stunning landscapes or journeying through Perth’s rich historical towns—there’s plenty on offer.
So, to help us get on our way, we’ve partnered with the WA Government to serve up some of our favourite experiences to help us better connect with our beautiful city and its surroundings.
Visit The Rolling Hills Of Chittering
For something a little different from the usual coastal escape, Chittering is the place for ultimate serenity. This sleepy shire is a picturesque backdrop of rolling green hills, untouched bushland, and wetlands as well as boasting vineyards, orchards, and spectacular wildflowers. Here, you’ll feel a million miles away while still being able to indulge in the finer things in life — with plenty of delicious cafes, bakeries, and even tiny houses to escape to after a day of exploring. From Perth, all you’ll need to do is jump on the Tonkin Highway and head north for about 40 minutes before arriving in what feels like another country.
Cycle And Swim At Cottesloe Beach
Cottesloe is an iconic WA experience for locals and visitors alike, with sparkling beaches, loads of delicious places to settle in for a feed (with a view), and plenty of picturesque trails for cycling. Make the journey by bike for a scenic activity you won’t forget, with 25km of pristine coastline to glide along. In addition to the coastal trail, the Principal Shared Path along the Fremantle Railway Line has also been extended from Grant Street to Victoria Station—making it even easier to get to Cottesloe by bike.
Adventure To The Coogee Maritime Trail
Those still on the hunt for beach adventures should make sure to plan a visit to the Coogee Maritime Trail. This award-winning trail is the first of its kind in Western Australia and is centered around the Omeo Shipwreck with an underwater dive and snorkel trail, as well as a land-based trail. Prepare to be wowed by beautiful marine life all while learning about significant maritime history and archaeology. From Perth, the journey should only take around 30 minutes, simply travel to and from Coogee along the Kwinana Freeway and you'll be there in no time at all.
Cycle Through Perth’s History
If you consider yourself a history buff, Bassendean is the place for you. Jump on your bike and head up old Perth Road to discover the many historical buildings dating back to the 1800s. Bassendean is also where the Noongar people once hunted and gathered, and is now home to many sites of cultural significance. There have also been upgrades to the shared path, so you can walk or ride a continuous path from Perth CBD through Bassendean and all the way to Midland.
Head North For A Camping Adventure
If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle, a trip up north could be just what the doctor ordered. The small coastal townships of Lancelin and Ledge Point are the perfect reprieve from the city and boast some pretty spectacular camping spots, all laden with stunning beaches, monstrous sand dunes, and endless opportunities to explore. Make sure to plan a pit stop to Two Rocks along the way and check out the old abandoned marine park in Atlantis Beach. Just jump on Wanneroo Road to head north out of Perth.
Exploring this big, beautiful place we call home and staying connected has never been easier thanks to the WA Government’s new and improved cycle, pedestrian paths, and freeway networks. For more information on how these exciting projects are driving jobs and our COVID recovery, see here.
