WA’s Best Tiny Homes For Your Next Off-Grid Escape
Tiny houses are all you need for the best off-grid getaway in WA. Fully stocked with kitchens, bathrooms, beds and drop-dead gorgeous views, they’re the perfect excuse for a spontaneous road trip outta Perth/Boorloo.
There are so many great ones around WA these days, but these are our top picks—the best tiny home escapes near Perth.
Pemberton
Riverside At Ryans Rest
Tempted by the thought of a cool-down in a glorious outdoor copper bath? At Riverside At Ryans Rest you get the chance to do just that, all while taking in some mind-blowing wraparound views. Your WA tiny home sits among the Karri trees just 15 minutes from Pemberton, and it's got a 3km river frontage which just adds to the appeal.
Go for a wade in the river, or bring your mountain bike and conquer the Munda Biddi track which winds its way just 300m from your home. Later you can take a load off on your own outdoor patio, get the barbecue sizzling and settle in for the night. There's a fire pit for snuggling around later with a cheeky G&T.
Scott River East
Slip Rails
Ever dreamed of going completely off the grid for a while? Slip Rails tiny home is located an hour from Margaret River on 740 hectares of private WA farmland, which means you can disconnect and bring on the chillaxing like never before.
Immerse yourself in a good book, hike in nature or head to the beach nearby—the mega serenity will have you spotting native creatures galore (oh hello black cockatoos, emus and kangaroos).
There are plenty of 4WD tracks to explore close to your accommodation, or you can plan some day trips to surrounding locations such as Augusta, Hamelin Bay, Nannup, Pemberton and Lake Jasper and be a full-on tourist for a while.
Bindoon
Wagtails Watch
If you're in the mood for ample space to unwind and disconnect from your busy life, this WA tiny home is one for you. Wagtails Watch is tucked up on a 50-acre farm providing stunning views of the Chittering Valley.
It's minimalistic vibe ensures your mind can rest easy while providing all the comforts you may need. There's indoor and outdoor fires to stoke up, so you can enjoy no matter the weather. Just one hour north of Perth, this is a destination to keep in mind next time you need a quick escape.
Cowaramup
The Glampavan
Oh hey there cute and colourful Glampavan—you sure are giving a whole lotta quirky! This refurbished WA tiny home sits on a farm with views over to vineyards, horse paddocks and a forest. As small as it is, it's got everything you need—a comfy queen-size bed, modern kitchen, TV nook, cosy annex with fireplace, tonnes of original art, and a gorgeous bathroom with a rain-water sky-shower.
Crank up the record player and prepare to live your best life. There's an outdoor area where you can sit and watch the sun go down if you fancy. Your superstar host even provides a couple of rugs to snuggle under with your plus one if the weather gets nippy.
Denmark
Heyscape Denmark
For off-grid country charm, look no further than the pet-friendly Heyscape Denmark tiny home which occupies a top spot on a regenerative cattle farm in William Bay. Once you've settled in, there's little need to go far. The award-winning paddock-to-plate restaurant The Dam sits on the same property and you'll find Cannabis Botanical Distillery where you can sample hemp-based spirits and seltzers nearby.
As the sun sets, take a dip in the outdoor bath where you'll see the gentle cattle herds wandering the hills, or take in the stars through the telescope. You're just ten minutes from town in case you need to stock up on snacks.
Dunsborough
Southcamp
Located smack bang in the heart of Dunsborough you’ll find Southcamp—a holiday hub with 18 bespoke tiny homes to check into, alongside a brewhouse, cafe and continental deli. Each self contained cabin has been custom designed by Finespun architectural studio to fit everything you need with nothing you don’t, offering up hotel-like luxury in a cool n' cosy package.
Just think: high ceilings, a comfy king bed, aircon, a streaming-ready TV and the best damn rainfall shower. Plus, loads of extra special little touches like electronic blinds, Bluetooth speakers and a record player with a unique set of vinyl to help you soundtrack your stay.
Nannup
Cleves Hut
Nestled in a lush little valley on the banks of the Blackwood River, Cleves Hut is a damn romantic spot to slow down and connect with nature. The 100 per cent off grid WA tiny home is truly secluded and surrounded by grazing cattle and other wildlife—much of which you can watch pass by from your bedroom.
You won't find a tellie or wifi here, but they've assured us there is phone reception so go ahead and hotspot it if you can't cope without the internet. They've also got a Bluetooth speaker so you can soundtrack your stay with ease, plus board games to keep you entertained. The true showstopper here though is the gorg outdoor bath for two—it's completely private so you can just as easily enjoy a soak in the sunshine or by starlight. Stunning!
Esperance
Peter The Tiny Cabin
You’ll find a fair few Heyscape cabins listed amongst our faves, but their new Esperance stays might just take the cake for the best tiny cabins in all of WA. There are four cracking homes to choose from—two nestled on an olive farm and two further out in the wilderness—but we wanna call out Peter in particular.
Located moments from the Cape Le Grand National Park, you can spend days out adventuring in Esperance. Enjoy beach hopping between white-sand, turquoise water stunners like Lucky Bay and Hellfire Bay or hike up to Frenchman’s Peak to take it all in from above. Then when you land back home you can run an outdoor bath, pour a wine and bliss out to expansive mountain views while trying to spot emus and kangaroos in the distant scrub before the milky star-studded sky takes over. As far as off-grid stays go, this is the pinnacle.
Kalgan
River's End Retreat
This mighty little shipping container is proof that good things do indeed come in small packages. Your self-contained WA tiny home is nestled on a 30-acre working farm and was lovingly created from up-cycled materials, including Red Gum timber milled on the property. It's a place to come for a spot of slow living: expect to see sheep, alpacas and horses grazing in the nearby paddocks and easy access to walking trails and beaches too.
Throw a banger on the barbecue and take to the outdoor deck where you can keep an eye on the sizzling while enjoying a lovely river view. Bayonet Head Woolies is just ten minutes away if you need some mash to go with it, and your superstar hosts provide eggs from their free-range hens for you to use too. After you've eaten your fill, we reckon a mooch down to the fire pit is probably in order. It's the best spot to chill as you watch the sun set.
Mundaring
The Carriage
Grab the pooch and prep yourself for something a little bit different. This century-old South Australian train carriage has been stunningly restored and transformed into one of WA's most unique tiny home stays. Originally part of the Barossa Valley Hotel, The Carriage is a circa-1901 gem now stationed on a peaceful 1ten-acre property ideal for the zoomies, and just minutes from Mundaring and a short drive to the Swan Valley.
Think vintage charm meets boutique luxury, with rich timber interiors, plush furnishings and elegant details that’ll transport you straight into the golden era of travel (without ever leaving the hills). It’s private, opulent, and totally secluded—with goats and chickens roaming outside no less. Definitely one of the best pet-friendly Perth Airbnbs!
Wilyabrup
Juniper Tiny House
Situated between lush vineyards and golden fields dotted with sheep, this secluded WA tiny home is situated at one of Margaret River's founding vineyards and minutes from more of the best cellar doors in the region.
Location aside though, the tiny home is a stunner with floor-to-ceiling windows that looks out to a picturesque little tree-lined dam. At golden hour, pour a wine—you'll find a bottle or two from Juniper in the fridge—and enjoy a drink on the patio as you fire up the barbecye. Come nighttime, you can soak up the stars from bed thanks to the extra window they've slotted in right above your head.
Shadforth
Stillwood Retreat
Five minutes away from the Denmark township, you’ll find Stillwood Retreat. And retreat there we shall. This secluded architecturally designed WA tiny home is tucked into the naturescape of the south west, among towering karri trees and next to your own private dam—where you can roll out a rug for a seriously serene private picnic on the deck before sinking into a hot outdoor bath as the sun sets.
If you're keen to venture out at all (which trust us, is hard to do) there's plenty of things to do in Denmark. Our perfect day involves going for a dip at Elephant Rocks (if the sun is shining) and then sampling some drinks over lunch—choose between wines at The Lake House, beers at Boston Brewing Co or spirits at The Dam.
Yallingup
Petit Eco Cabin
Perfect for a romantic getaway or a solo trip to treat-yo-self, this quaint timber cabin is the ideal place to unwind with a glass of vino. Nestled within an organic vineyard called Windows Estate (quite convenient, we think), this cabin’s rustic bathtub sits under eucalyptus trees and faces a serene lake.
We think you’ll find it hard to resist the urge to ‘gram this tub—especially when you’re lying back with a glass of red in hand.
Cowaramup
8 Paddocks
Owners Kristie and Shane truly hit it out of the park with 8 Paddocks. The gorgeous one bedroom WA tiny home is wrapped by 180 beautiful acres of natural bushland, pasture and vineyard, so it's a good spot to switch off and relax together in nature.
It also happens to be super close to all the best of Margs, so you can spend your days exploring and then come back for a hot bath in the outdoors before curling up by the fire.
Ferguson Valley and Peel Region
Hidden Cabins
Sometimes we need to completely disconnect from the world around us to reconnect with our significant other, and there’s no doubt that the masterminds behind Hidden Cabins have created three extraordinary romantic eco-conscious spaces—Florence, Henry and Margot—to help us unwind and recharge together.
All within two hours of Perth, they each include massive floor to ceiling windows and wood fires to snuggle up and admire the secluded beauty along with full amenities, board games, books and other thoughtful little touches so that you never need to leave the arms of your lover.
Secret Locations
Wilma by Unyoked
The crew behind globally renowned eco-friendly tiny cabins, Unyoked, has six jaw-dropping off-grid getaways hidden in secret locations across WA. Adventure lovers will love the pet-friendly Wilma who requires a 225m hike to occupy (but, trust us, you'll be rewarded by an outdoor shower with the best views so it's worth it).
All of Unyoked offerings are simple, with just what you need to fully switch off, recharge and connect with nature. Bliss.
Carbunup
Hidden Valley Retreat
Located in Carbanup, between all the action of Dunsborough, Busselton and Margaret River, Hidden Valley Retreat is the perfect WA base for your next down south escape. There are a few self-contained tiny homes to choose from here (so you might have better luck actually locking in a booking).
Don't worry though, it still feels incredibly secluded thanks to the lush surrounding bushland. The best part though? Every cabin at Hidden Valley Retreat has its very own outdoor bath to soak in at the end of the day.
Margaret River
Infinity Chalet
Overlooking Margaret River and boasting lovely ocean views, this WA tiny home has all the modern comforts you could ask for during your next romantic vacay. Press the snooze button a few times as you lounge in your king size bed, before padding a few steps to the big glass doors, throwing them open and letting all that good stuff breeze right in.
There's a spa bath and steam shower to indulge in, and a fireplace to cosy up around if the weather gets chill. Come sunset, we recommend packing the picnic blanket and heading to the lawn with a glass of something tasty.
Margaret River
Tree Chalets
Tucked among rows of tall rosegum trees, these super cute self-contained WA tiny homes are equipped with all the luxe amenities you could ever need. The property has an interesting backstory, having been in the same family for more than 50 years. It was once a merino wool farm, and also a horse pacing stud, but in 2008 the family planted 6000 Rosegum trees to start their very own tree farm.
The accommodation here is designed with the leafy views front of mind. The outdoor bath is where you'll find us lazing away a few hours. Set out on a wooden deck with views out onto native bushland, it’s the perfect spot to unwind with a cheeky bottle of Margaret River red.
Frankland River
European Style Cabin At Frankland River Retreat
Lean into all the Swiss Alpine hut vibes at this WA tiny home that sits on a peaceful 83-acre property in the Great Southern. Prepare the wine glasses because you're tucked up in a premier wine region here, and there are three vineyards along the Frankland River that are well worth a tasting sesh.
Your home is 14kms from Frankland town and you've got easy access to destinations like Albany, Denmark, Pemberton, and Walpole too. And what better way to end a day spent exploring than to take your favourite tipple to the outdoor deck and sipping away with unspoilt views of the stars.
Albany
Tiny House in Central Albany
Fancy yourself a pint-sized pad with its very own fenced garden, and yet want to be within an easy toddle of town? This Albany tiny home stay ticks both those boxes and then some. Your WA accommodation is a converted shed that sits under a huge golden elm tree, and it's full on charismatic inside, with massive steel and glass windows that let the outside shine right in.
Snuggle up in the queen bed while you plan your day, or enjoy a hot shower under the stars. You are close to all the fun stuff in town with its coffee shops, cosy pubs and parks to wander in, plus there are hikes up the mountain you can do if you're feeling adventurous. Your Airbnb comes with some friendly locals too—we're talking Po the possum and Kevin the black skink who might wander on by during your stay.
Quindalup
Toby Home
For a beautiful down south location, you can’t go wrong with this totally trendy WA tiny home on the banks of the Toby Inlet. It's the perfect base to explore all Dunsborough has to offer, just a three minute drive from the town centre and a short canoe paddle to the beach.
With Palmers Winery just a ten-minute walk away, you’ll forget about missing that Europe summer in no time. Or if you want to stay in, take a bottle to-go and watch the sunset from the heated outdoor spa.
