It doesn’t matter if you’re a culinary whiz or the type to burn toast—cooking classes are one of the best ways to spend a few hours. You’ll sharpen your skills in a relaxed, hands-on setting, discover new flavours, and maybe even surprise yourself with what you can whip up. Plus, let’s be honest—sitting down to eat what you’ve just made is half the fun.
To kick off your culinary prowess, we’ve put together some of Perth’s most epic spots to visit. Here are Urban List’s pick of the best cooking schools in Perth.
Salt & Company
1/239 Fitzgerald St, West Perth WA 6000
Tucked behind an unassuming door on Fitzgerald Street, Salt & Company might just be the coolest cooking school in Perth. Set in a gorgeous industrial-style loft, the space oozes warehouse-chic energy with high ceilings, festoon lighting and a long table dining setup where you’ll enjoy the spoils of your labour after class—wine glass in hand (BYO, of course).
There’s a stacked calendar of classes to choose from—Vietnamese street food, authentic Mexican, handmade pasta and more—and they make a cracking last-minute gift thanks to their handy vouchers. I did one of their Italian nights as a team building activity and it was seriously one of the best work events I’ve done. We made the dreamiest focaccia (I’ve baked it at home multiple times since) and the team were full of tips I still use—like ditching imported oil for fresh, local Aussie olive oil. Game changer.
The Cooking Professor Culinary School
267 Scarborough Beach Rd, Mount Hawthorn WA 6016
If you're into bold flavours, vibrant feasts and the kind of dishes that make your kitchen smell like a spice market, The Cooking Professor is a must. Led by Israeli-born spice queen Riki Kaspi, the school takes cues from her Turkish heritage and generations of family recipes, delivered with flair, colour and a whole lot of passion. She’s joined by a powerhouse team of instructors, each bringing their own flavour to the table—literally.
While the Spanish tapas class is still an absolute banger, there’s a whole lineup of hands-on experiences to get around. The Indian night is bursting with big, bold flavours—I made one of the best fish curries of my life—and the Middle Eastern feast had me dreaming about the creamy hummus (legit the best I’ve ever had) and crispy falafel made from scratch. Dumpling nights are just as fun, and if you’re a beginner, don’t stress—you’ll surprise yourself with what you’re able to pull off.
The best bit? At the end of the class, everyone sits down for a big shared meal of everything you’ve cooked, BYO wine in hand. It’s fun, flavour-packed, and just the right amount of chaotic. Honestly, one of Perth’s best nights out for food lovers.
Elementi Cooking School
Mobile
After a truly personalised cooking experience? Elementi should be at the top of your list. As Perth’s first fully on-demand cooking school, they let you choose the day, time, menu and location of your session—whether that’s one of their stunning partnered venues, your own backyard or even the office. From hens’ nights and team building events to one-on-one lessons and parent–child bonding sessions, every experience is completely tailored and deeply personal.
The menus are just as flexible as the format. You might master 15-minute marvels like free-range lamb cutlets with chunky tabouleh, tomato and bread salad or chickpeas and black rice salad, dive into Thai classics like a fragrant green curry, or get hands-on with handmade pizza from scratch. Of course, it’s BYO, so feel free to bring along your favourite drop to sip while you cook.
While Elementi’s roots lie in Italian traditions, their offerings now span a wide range of cuisines, always grounded in seasonal produce, quality ingredients and a whole lot of heart. As founder Simona Arcieri beautifully puts it, “We believe food is one of the last true rituals of togetherness. At Elementi Cooking School, we nurture that bond—between colleagues, families, friends, and even within ourselves.” Prepare to feel inspired and connected, one delicious dish at a time.
Hot Things BBQ School
13/30 Erindale Rd, Balcatta WA 6021
Dropped a fortune on a flash new BBQ only to default to snags every weekend? You’re not alone—and that’s exactly why Hot Things BBQ School exists. These legends realised Perth was seriously lacking when it came to practical, fun and all-inclusive BBQ education, so they fired up a new kind of school where you’ll actually learn to master the setup you’ve got at home—whether it’s a backyard gas grill, charcoal beast or fancy-pants pellet smoker.
Now four years in, they’ve got four award-winning pitmasters at the helm (Liam, Kundai, Craig and Stephen—absolute legends), with classes ranging from beginner-friendly Just Good BBQ to Kissed With Smoke and next-level Low N Slow brisket sessions. Each 4–4.5 hour class is stacked with demos, epic eats (think brisket, ribs, smashed burgers, smoked cob loaf), drinks, and take-home goodies.
Whether you’re flying solo or wrangling the crew for a private session, expect to leave full, fired up, and way more confident around the grill. As BBQ Coordinator Claire says, “We just want our guests to feel relaxed and have a bloody good arvo.” Mission accomplished.
Urban Provider Cooking School
267 Vincent St, Leederville WA 6007
Urban Provider has been running since 2002, making it the city’s longest-standing cooking school—and once you step inside the lush Balinese-style garden and welcoming open kitchen, it’s easy to see why. Owners Nico and Belinda Moretti have built a warm, relaxed space that feels more like a dinner gathering with friends than a formal cooking class.
Whether you’re a total kitchen newbie or looking to level up your hosting game, their Cooking Passions classes are all about minimal effort, maximum enjoyment. Each intimate session (just 10–12 people) covers 4–5 beautiful dishes from a huge selection of cuisines—over 30 experiences to choose from—and you’ll learn everything through real-time demonstrations, stories and plenty of tastings along the way.
Founder Nico is the kind of host who makes you feel instantly at ease. “We’ve designed each of our classes to be very relaxed and social, with recipes that are simple to prepare but still impressive,” he says. “For us, that’s what entertaining is all about—minimal effort, maximum enjoyment, shared with people you care for.”
“Having grown up in my father’s Italian restaurant and my mother’s kitchen, food in my upbringing was not only a passion, but a religion.” His passion is infectious, and the way he shares it—with warmth, humour and a down-to-earth teaching style—makes this one of the most special foodie experiences in town.
The Little Italian School
230 Main St, Osborne Park WA 6060
If you’re after a slice of la dolce vita, you’ll find it at The Little Italian School. Founded by proud Italian-Australian Tania Pietracatella, this soulful school is an ode to the “forgotten generation”—her parents and grandparents who migrated post-WWII and carried their culture across oceans. “Opening my school 10 years ago allowed me to speak even louder about how proud I am of my Italian heritage and our families’ sacrifices,” says Tania. “It is heartwarming to know I am part of the reason, even if just a small part, that our language and culture lives on.”
You won’t find laminated recipe cards or fussy techniques here. Just like Nonna taught her, Tania’s classes are all about intuition, simplicity and using your senses. Learn to make pillowy gnocchi or rustic ravioli—the two Sunday lunch staples from her childhood—or book in for her brand-new Pizza Al Taglio class, inspired by the family’s Molise roots. Want to make a day of it? Go for a pasta party with your mates or the Amalfi Pottery and Aperitivo class, complete with homemade limoncello and Italian sweets by CC’s Delights.
Perth BBQ School
195 Guildford Rd, Maylands WA 6051
Born from the smoky genius of Gusface Grillah—BBQ blogger, comp champ and all-round meat maestro—Perth BBQ School is the destination for anyone keen to level up their grill game. After years of making the internet drool with low 'n slow food porn and taking out trophies on the competitive BBQ circuit, Gus and the crew decided it was time to teach the people of Perth how it’s really done.
Classes cover charcoal and smoking fundamentals or you can go for something a bit out of the ordinary with a seafood masterclass. There’s plenty of hot tips, cold beers, and good vibes throughout and makes for one killer gift idea for hard-to-buy-for dads or anyone who loves a good feed and a backyard challenge.
My mate Scott is totally BBQ obsessed—he’s always slow-smoking something or whipping up sides from scratch (his smoked mac and cheese is superb), and he’s done more Perth BBQ School classes than I can count (not complaining.) When I asked what keeps him going back, he said: “I had such a great time and have learnt a lot of tips and tricks about cooking BBQ. A few beers were supplied on the day and at the end we were presented with an epic platter of food that was prepared during the day. Highly recommended for anyone keen to up their BBQ skills.”
Shikisai Japanese
255 Corinthian Rd E, Riverton WA 6147
If you’ve ever wanted to truly master the art of Japanese cooking—beyond the basics of sushi rolls—Shikisai is where to begin. Founded by professional chef and teacher Kyoko Yoshida, this intimate Leederville school offers a deeply authentic experience, rooted in tradition, technique and seasonality. In fact, shikisai translates to “the colour of four seasons”—a nod to the way Japanese cuisine reflects and celebrates each season through flavour, presentation and ingredients.
Originally from just outside Osaka, Kyoko brings a lifetime of culinary knowledge to the kitchen, combining her background in both traditional Japanese cooking and food programming (as a former nurse specialising in diabetic care) to help students create nutritious, balanced and beautiful meals. Since opening her first restaurant in Perth in 2003 and launching Shikisai in 2015, she’s been passionate about sharing that knowledge with others.
Classes are small—just six students max—so expect plenty of personal guidance and practical tips you’ll actually use at home. From the fundamentals of mirin and soy sauce to Osaka street food and Japanese breakfast spreads, every class is thoughtful, hands-on and incredibly rewarding.
Mamma Giulietta
8 Salmar Way, Westminster WA 6061
If your idea of heaven involves pillowy-soft gnocchi, handmade tagliatelle and learning the secrets of traditional southern Italian cooking, Mamma Giulietta is calling. The brainchild of Juliette Iozzi, this soulful cooking school was born from a simple idea: to share the kind of food her mamma used to make—fresh from the garden, full of love, and rooted in tradition.
In these intimate home-style workshops, Giulietta guides you through every step of the pasta-making process—from kneading the dough and using a pasta machine properly, to hand-shaping artisan styles like orecchiette and lorighittas using a traditional mattarello. You’ll also master the perfect pasta sauce, whether it’s a Napoletana straight from Nonna’s playbook or your own favourite that Giulietta will happily help you finesse.
The classes are relaxed and hands-on, just like cooking in mamma’s kitchen, and cater to all dietary needs, with vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Whether you're making spinach tagliatelle, pumpkin gnocchi or silky sfoglia sheets, it’s all about cooking with care—no gadgets, no stress, just good food made by hand and heart.
He even crashed our girls’ night after one class—with said epic platter in hand. Can confirm: the cornbread was outrageously good.
