We Tried MOXI, The Gentle Skin Treatment That’s Basically Like Laser On Steroids

‘Laser on steroids’ is how my therapist explained the MOXI laser treatment to me and spoiler alert: she was not wrong.

When I first heard that Wembley Downs luxury skincare clinic Ocean Cosmetics was the only clinic in Australia to have a MOXI laser, I was intrigued as I’m a sucker for anything that promises to make my skin glow. And when I heard phrases like ‘no down time’, ‘amazing results’, ‘one of a kind’ and ‘gentle laser’, I was sold.

So what is MOXI?

MOXI is a laser that converts electrical energy into light to target pigment by creating tiny perforations in the superficial top layer of the skin. These micro injuries stimulate the dermal repair process, revitalising tone and texture and reducing the appearance of brown and red spots caused by sun damage or aging. In terms of strength, it sits between a Clear & Brilliant laser treatment and Fraxel.

What to expect?

After a deep cleanse, a numbing cream was applied to my skin before being given goggles to protect my eyes from the laser light. The actual laser just felt like a prickly heat. Not super comfortable but not so bad that I couldn’t relax during the treatment. The 30 minutes flew by and before I knew it, a heavy moisturising mask was being applied to help with the redness before I was sent on my way.

What happens afterwards?

There’s practically no downtime associated with MOXI. My skin was red and tingly straight afterwards but that subsided after a few hours. For the next few days, my skin felt really rough to touch and I avoided any makeup or skincare other than a moisturiser. I was also super careful to apply a 50-plus sunscreen any time I went outside. By day five post-treatment, the rough skin was gone and the skin underneath was incredibly soft, smooth and glow-ey.

Would I do it again?

In a heartbeat! It’s definitely not a cheap treatment but the radiance and overall glow was worth it X 1000. It’s worth knowing that while MOXI is safe for all skin types and tones year-round, you may need multiple treatment sessions to deliver a noticeable improvement. As for me, I’m counting down the days til I can do it again—that glow is addictive.
