Modu
Taking its namesake and inspiration from the City of Shanghai—which is affectionately known as Modu, meaning “City of Sins or Magic”—this moody, emerald-hued restaurant and bar is serving up a flavour-packed selection of oriental dishes and alluring elixirs in an intimate setting that’s perfect for casual drinks and date night dinners through to special VIP functions. Just picture cosying up in a velvet-clad booth, knocking back a smoking BaiJiu kung fu tea cocktail or two over Peking duck nori tacos and char-grilled freshly shucked oysters, all while soaking up the action in the state of the art open kitchen. Then again, you could opt for bottle service, which comes with a personal glass display locker so you can sip on it over multiple visits, if that’s more your style. On the weekends, Modu will also come alive with entertainment and stay open ‘til the early morning, much like the city that never sleeps, so prepare to settle in for the evening.
Golden Boy And Jade Girl
Proving two is always better than one, this new opening from hospo legends Andy Ngo (Panda & Co, Brisbane Hotel and Luxe Bar) and Michael Cheang (Seasonal Brewing Co, Frisk Small Bar and Alfred’s Pizzeria) delivers two vibing spaces in one—with a laid-back ground-floor eatery and vibrant rooftop beer garden perfect for your upcoming sundowner sessions. Both will be dishing up lip-smacking Chinatown-style staples with a modern twist courtesy of chef Danny Matthews (Seasonal Brewing Co, Vans and Don Tapa), from sticky ribs and honey butter wings to laksa spring rolls and bottomless prawn crackers. Meanwhile, at the bar, Benny Chou (Rockpool) and his team will be remixing classic cocktails like a reversed whiskey highball, BBQ old fashioned and a yuzu cucumber, alongside quality wines and brews. All this, just in time for summer drinks.
