Life can get overcomplicated sometimes, can’t it? And the same goes for cheeseburgers. Remember good old-fashioned cheeseburgers? Just the plain and simple varieties, not overthought or overwhelmed with lots of extra fancy ingredients. Just good traditional cheeseburgers that are plain, simple and easy. Just the way a cheeseburger—and life—should be.
As an ode to the humble cheeseburger, we’ve found the best spots in Perth that offer up the best cheeseburgers going around.
Short Order Burger Co
‘Burger geniuses’ is a term we have coined since Short Order Burger Co opened their doors in Freo. The crew here make some of the best burgers you will ever encounter, and their cheeseburger is no exception. Premium grass-fed beef patty with smoked mozzarella, American cheddar, ketchup and mustard. Double the cheese = double the fun. Fact.
RoyAl's Chicken & Burgers
East Victoria Park and Wembley
RoyAl's burgers are undoubtedly some of the best in Perth, and their cheeseburger doesn't disappoint. A 100% ground Angus beef patty, cheese, ketchup, mustard, pickle, and onion make for the perfect American style cheeseburger.
With a motto like "cheeseburgers that glisten in the sun", it's not all that surprising that Gary's Diner does some of the best cheeseburgers in Perth. Cruising around town dishing out epic cheeseburgers with ingredients that are all locally sourced, these guys are worth hunting down.
Meet & Bun
If you can make it past the Breaking Bad burger or the Ari Gold, the cheeseburger at Meet & Bun is pure perfection. All the good stuff—locally sourced beef, onion, pickles, cheddar cheese, ketchup and mustard—plus a little kick thanks to the chipotle mayo. Served on a warm brioche bun, what more could you want?
Leederville and Subiaco
It’s no surprise that good ol’ local joint Jus Burgers has made the list of Perth’s best cheeseburgers. We all know how good it is. But just in case you don’t, here’s your explanation—the Jus Burgers Cheeseburger is WA chargrilled butterflied beef, served with blue, Swiss or cheddar cheese (your choice, how accommodating), with fresh salad, aioli and relish served on a char-grilled Turkish bread bun.
Obviously. No flashy names or unpronounceable ingredients here. Alfred's is the master of burgers and their burger with cheese is the perfect dose of classic cheeseburger goodness. A burger patty made with quality WA beef and using the original Alfred’s recipe from 1946, topped with tasty cheese, homemade BBQ sauce, onions and fresh lettuce and tomato. Do yourself a favour and make the trip out there.
Is there even a burger on the menu at Johnny's that doesn't have cheese? The Troublemaker comes with their famous secret recipe beef patty, American cheese, ketchup, mustard and mayo with a nice big serve of pickles on the side. Perfection.
Mount Hawthorn and South Fremantle
The Yankee Doodle at Missy Moos is a beautiful slice of cheeseburger traditionalism. Premium WA lean beef patty, tasty cheese, fresh onion, pickles with American mustard and ketchup. You just don’t get that kind of beautiful simplicity anymore, do you?
The Hood Burger food truck moves around town a bit, but it’s worth finding out where they’ll be, because they dish up some impressive cheeseburgers. Stacked high and mighty, they are made with homemade WA beef patties and are topped with loads of melted cheese, onions, pickles, tomato and tomato sauce. You’ll definitely need two hands for one of these bad boys.
Not your typical cheeseburger, the guys at Tiger Bao do a killer cheeseburger in a bao bun and there's only one way to describe it. Genius. Tiger Bao comes to us from the same guys as Hood Burger, so you know it's going to be good. The sweet potato chips are also killer.
If you wish you were in New York eating a good old fashion American cheeseburger, you can just head to East Village and pretend. Their New York Cheeseburger is everything you could ever want in life—a 180gm grilled beef patty, home-made relish, pickles, onions, lettuce, tomato, mustard mayo and all of that topped with loads of cheesy goodness.
There are a few cheesy options for you at Varsity Burgers, but we reckon their standard cheeseburger is where it’s at. A burger pattie served on a toasty brioche bun with cheese, pickles and their signature Varsity mayo.
Ribs & Burgers
If you assumed that a place called Ribs & Burgers does a good cheeseburger, then you assumed right. The old school cheese delivers exactly what its name suggests—a beef pattie topped with American cheese, onions, mustard, pickles, BBQ sauce and aioli.
Burgers With Attitude
The guys at Burgers With Attitude have got some very creative menu items, but they still honour tradition with their American cheeseburger. A succulent beef patty with melted cheddar, Swiss and American cheese, topped with pickles, onions, mustard and tomato sauce.
Brooklyn Lounge is the home of great burgers, and they have an impressive cheeseburger here waiting for you. The royale with cheese burger is two wagyu beef patties with cheese, mustard and tomato sauce.
V Burger Bar
East Victoria Park, Elizabeth Quay and Floreat
While not a traditional cheeseburger as such, V Burgers scrape into the Perth’s Best Cheeseburgers list for offering four different types of cheese on their burgers! Yes, FOUR! So you can transform your Classic V Burger – grilled prime beef patty with salad, onions, aioli and relish – in to the cheeseburger of your dreams by adding cheddar, haloumi, brie and blue cheese.
