As the nights start to cool, there’s one thing on our minds: steak frites. Few dishes hit quite like a perfectly cooked steak, a mountain of golden fries and a glass of something red on a chilly evening.

Thankfully, Perth has no shortage of excellent steak-and-chips situations, from classic French bistros and neighbourhood wine bars to bottomless feasts and oversized T-bones built for sharing. Loosen the belt a notch and dig in.

Stampa!

If one steak just isn't enough, Stampa's new Bottomless Fiorentina should be firmly on your radar. Every Saturday from 5pm, the Print Hall restaurant serves up endless Harvey Beef Reserve T-bone inspired by the iconic bistecca alla Fiorentina, with thick-cut steaks replenished throughout the evening.

Priced at $79 per person, each serving comes with a generous pile of seasoned chips and a trio of condiments including smoked chimichurri, Tuscan mustard and aioli. Add a bottle from the Italian-leaning wine list and settle in for the kind of dinner not meant to be rushed.

Margot’s

Margot’s might be best known for its oysters, but its steak frites are more than worthy of your attention. Every Wednesday, the William Street bistro serves up tender wagyu steak, a generous pile of golden frites and a glass of wine for $45. Budget meets boujie? We love to see it.

If you’re looking to elevate your Wednesday (because weekends shouldn’t get all the fun) you can upgrade to bottomless chips for just $5. Add half a dozen oysters for $10 and a martini upgrade for $15, and what started as a quick dinner can quickly spiral into a full-blown midweek affair. Just note there are only two sittings each week (5.30pm and 7.30pm), and seats tend to disappear fast.

Besk

Besk has long been firing one of our favourite steak frites around. Kick off your week on the right note with their Monday night steak special, where $30 gets you a perfectly cooked Stirling Ranges skirt steak, paired with tarragon and mustard sauce, a heaping pile of golden frites and a fresh salad.

Of course, there’s plenty more Besk gets right beyond the steak. This is one of Perth’s best wine bars, after all, so you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to dip into the carefully curated wine list while you're there. Better yet, Monday also means free corkage, making it the perfect excuse to finally crack open that special bottle you've been saving. Between the quality produce, sharp wine offering and neighbourhood bar charm, this is one steak night that consistently punches above its price tag.

La Lune

73 George St, East Fremantle WA 6158

At La Lune, Fremantle's chic little French bistro, steak frites comes in the form of a perfectly cooked bavette steak served with a rich béarnaise and a mountain of golden frites. And honestly, once you've had it, you'll wonder why you ever ordered steak any other way.

It's the kind of dish that feels deceptively simple until you realise every element has been absolutely nailed. The steak is beautifully charred, the béarnaise is silky and punchy, and the fries are exactly what you'd hope for from a French restaurant. Pair it with a glass of red, settle into the cosy dining room and you'll be forgiven for thinking you've somehow stumbled into a neighbourhood bistro in Paris rather than the heart of Fremantle.

Avalon

1 Airlie St, Claremont WA 6010

Not one to do things by halves, Avalon’s steak du jour is an 800g T-bone served up every Wednesday as part of its Steak and Cellar night. The mammoth cut is designed to share, so naturally comes paired with truffle fries and two glasses of Margaret River wine for $120. Date night? Sorted.

Avalon is all about the drama, so if you ask us, bigger is better. But if you'd rather not share (and there's no judgement here), $50 gets you a 300g sirloin with chips and a glass of wine. Better yet, you'll be treated to live R&B and soul throughout the evening to really set the mood.

Cosy Del’s

15 Lathlain Pl, Lathlain WA 6100

Cosy Del's understands one simple truth: steak tastes better when buried under a mountain of crispy potatoes. Their Scotch bistecca comes topped with homemade julienne chips and a rich jus, making it one of the most satisfying takes on steak frites in Perth. At $49, it's one of the more generous plates on this list, and proof that sometimes more really is more.

It's all in the name, and Cosy Del's really does invite comfort. Grab a glass of Italian red, settle in for longer than planned and finish things off with a creamy tiramisu for the ultimate Italian-meets-French collision of a dinner.

Canteen Pizza

32 Ardross St, Applecross WA 6153

Thursday nights at Canteen mean bistecca and big reds. Their weekly Big Reds & Bistecca offering pairs premium cuts from some of Australia's best beef producers with a rotating wine list inspired by a standout wine region from around the world.

One month you might be working your way through Tuscany's best drops, the next it's Piedmont. Either way, the formula remains the same: exceptional steak, seriously good wine and zero pressure to rush anywhere. Add a few contorni to the table, order something bold by the glass and settle in. Between the premium cuts and region-hopping wine list, this is the closest thing to an Italian dinner party you'll find on a Thursday night.

Varnish On King

75 King St, Perth WA 6000

If you’re looking for a night out without limits, look no further than Varnish On King. Here, steak night is done bottomless. Every Thursday and Friday, the CBD whisky bar dishes up endless sirloin steak and bottomless fries for $59 per person, giving you 90 minutes to see just how serious your commitment to steak really is.

It's a little less refined than some of the other entries on this list, but that's entirely the point. This is a challenge disguised as a dinner special, best tackled with a group of equally ambitious mates and a stiff whisky on the side. Just remember: confidence is free, but tapping out is forever.
