The Best Stargazing Spots Near Brisbane
South East Queensland is a gorgeous part of the world to catch the stars. Above our towering mountains, moonlit seas and dazzling cityscapes are glittering constellations just waiting for you to soak in. And now some spots are even considered world-class.
If you've forgotten the last time you marvelled at the universe's massive beauty, let stargazing be your answer. To slow down, get quiet, and look up.
In June 2026 the Sunshine Coast Hinterland officially received the title of Queensland's first Dark Sky Reserve. It's the second in Australia, and marks 870 square kilometres of twinkling expanse. To give an idea of why this international accreditation is such a feat, in the Dark Sky Reserve up to 2,000 stars can be seen with the naked eye, rather than the 10ish other major cities get a look at.
There's a dizzying selection of top stargazing spots and afterdark tours to light up your life right across the region. Here are the best places to stargaze across Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Gold Coast in 2026.
