Break out the thongs and put away the winter woollies, because spring is finally here ppl! Say goodbye to early sunsets, freezing mornings and winter colds, and say hello to fruity cocktails, alfresco dining and singlet tops. Can you tell we’re excited much?! 

Sure, you might get swooped by the odd magpie or seven, but that can’t stop you from having a good time. Just in case you weren’t already excited enough for the return of longer days and warmer weather, we’ve put together a list of 18 things to do on the Sunshine Coast this month that’ll make your September even better. So bust out the sandals and crack open a bottle of cider, because this is going to be your best September yet. 

Eumundi Drive In | Saturday 1 September 

If #throwbacks are your jam, then you won’t want to miss the Eumundi Drive In hosted by Starry Nights Outdoor Movies. To keep those old school vibes flowing, they’ll be screening two classics from the good ol’ days. Yep you guessed it, Footloose and Saturday Night Fever. All you need is your car, some blankets, and movie snacks (oh and maybe a bottle of wine) and you’re all set. Be sure to book tickets ASAP to secure your spot!

Raw Food Workshop | Saturday 1 September 

Ahhh cooking. You either love it, or you hate it. Or, you’re like us, and you just love the outcome, not the process. Billabong Parko’s Grom | Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 September 

Surfer dudes and dudettes rejoice! The Billabong Parko’s Grom Stomp is coming to the Sunny Coast and it’s going to go off. Attracting grommets from all over Australia, the Grom Stomp will be an epic weekend of good times and even better surfing. It’s a mobile event, so will take place across various beaches from Noosa to King’s Beach, depending on the conditions on the day. So get your mates together, grab some fish n chips and follow the action across the coast for a day of sand and sun.

Wax Buildup Record Store Opening | Saturday 1 September

Music nerds and coffee aficionados unite! Wax Buildup is opening its doors for the first time and if you’re a lover of coffee or music (or both), then you won’t want to miss it. They’ll be serving up delish coffees (and other types of cheeky brews after 3pm), as well as selling rows and rows of vintage, new, old-school and modern records. Amazing records from all types of artists and all genres will be up for grabs, as well as some highly sought after and extremely rare records. So whether you’re looking to add to your vinyl collection or just want a new joint to pick up your morning coffee, then check these guys out.

Father’s Day At Australia Zoo | Sunday 2 September

Little Seed Theatre Company’s Production Of WICKED | Friday 7 & Saturday 8 September

Following the success of last year’s performance of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, the Little Seed Theatre Company is proud to present WICKED, a prequel to The Wizard of Oz that tells the stories of witches Glinda and Elphaba. The musical has garnered huge critical acclaim on Broadway, and now, lucky for you, you can see it without leaving the Sunshine Coast. Just Acrobatics Expo | Saturday 8 September 

If you’re one of those people who can’t take your eyes off the gymnastics during the Olympics, or find yourself Googling stunts in your spare time, then you may want to check out the Just Acrobatics Expo. Extremely talented tumblers and aerialists from the Just Acrobatics School will be showcasing their amazing skills in an afternoon of high octane flips, jumps and tumbles. There will also be face painting, jumping castles, and a hand stand competition, so bring the little monkeys along for a fun afternoon!

Walk For Women’s Cancer | Saturday 8 September 

There’s nothing better than getting your sweat on for a good cause than getting your sweat on for a good cause when there’s food involved. If that sounds like your cup of tea, then get on down to Alex Heads in your pinkest get-up to raise much needed funds for women’s cancer research. There’s a 3km and 6km walk for participants to choose from, plus heaps of food vans, market stalls, live entertainment and activities (oh come on, we know we had you at food vans). So bring the whole family along and work up a sweat for a great cause!

Queensland Symphony Orchestra: The Best Of Movie Music | Wednesday 26 September 

There’s nothing quite like a good movie score. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean… you can hum the tunes to these famous pics in your head almost instantly (or you blocked them from your memory because you played them in school band 1000 times). But, you haven’t really heard a score until you’ve heard it played by a professional orchestra. Goodbye primary school band, hello Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Ever wanted to just pack your bags and head off for a weekend of exploring and rock climbing adventures?
