Sometimes you just wake up with that one craving that nothing but dessert can satisfy. Never fear, sweet-tooths! We’ve found the perfect Sydney cafés where indulging in dessert as your morning meal won’t result in any judgy-eyes from the wait staff or fellow diners—so you can have your cake and eat it too (literally) with some of the best breakfasts in Sydney.

Orto Trading Co.

Surry Hills

Breakfast is Orto’s middle name, and it certainly lives up to it. Their menu is filled with the brekkie classics; but we’ve got our eye on the decadent carrot cake hotcakes. Your tastebuds will have a field day as you crunch into the toffee pecans, savour the gingerbread, and finish off with carrot curd and mascarpone cream. When it comes to breakfast, this dessert will certainly hit the spot!

If you wake up needing a sugar rush, then go no further than Tartine. This new Sydney café has answered our call to be kids again and have equipped their menu with a marshmallow, banana and Nutella jaffle. Prepared with the simplest of ingredients, this jaffle is the best of its kind and will leave your adventurous tastebuds satisfied for weeks after!

The Boathouse

Palm Beach

Have you ever wanted to have your two favourite French desserts in one? Well now you can because The Boathouse’s innovative chefs have taken French toast to a whole new level. The traditional bread is replaced with a buttery, flaky croissant and topped with fresh berries, light mascarpone and, of course, a dousing of maple syrup. C’est très délicieux!

Devon Café

Surry Hills

Breakfast of the gods comes in a luxurious form at Devon Café. Their new Aphrodite’s Bowl is sure to warm you up this winter and make you feel heavenly at the same time. Warm rice pudding topped with rose petals, pistachios, sweet figs and crunchy honeycomb is the perfect combination of sweet and appetising. Who wouldn’t want to devour this delicacy?

Double Bay

It seems to be the battle of the French toast in Sydney! But Indigo at Double Bay has one of the winners. Their crunch corn flake French toast is a delight for the senses: it’s normal French toast with the added fun of corn flakes as a crust. The toppings don’t disappoint either, with fresh honeycomb, sticky roasted pear and an almond meal and cinnamon crumb to spice up your morning. Accompany it with a raspberry milkshake for a treat that will tickle your tastebuds and satisfy your dessert craving for days!

Ruby’s Diner

For those of you who like sweets with a side of health, your next food experience has to be at Ruby’s Diner. Their signature coconut quinoa bircher is the perfect option to please your palate and your nutritionist. The aromatic coconut quinoa base is topped with freshly sliced apple, a light pistachio crumble and a cheeky coconut caramel. Whoever said quinoa was going out of style was wrong!

Barefoot Coffee Traders

Coffee and waffles seems to be the perfect match for a morning treat, which is lucky because that’s all that’s on the menu at Barefoot Coffee Traders. The freshly made waffle topped with chocolate sauce and ice cream is a meal you’ll want to devour all over again (and you probably can at just $3 each).
