Flora is a vegetarian restaurant in Newtown’s Australia Street precinct by Paisano & Daughters (the family business behind Continental Deli, oceanic eatery Mister Grotto, and soon-to-open Italian restaurant Osteria Mucca with boutique accommodation above).
Showcasing local growers and producers, Flora offers seasonal ingredients with the added benefit of minimal waste and sustainability. Led by head chef Jude Hughes alongside celebrated pastry chef Lauren Eldridge, Flora presents a uniquely Australian menu using innovative techniques including fermentation, house-made vinegars, plus flavourful wood-fired cooking.
The warm buttery-yellow walls styled with polished timber accents create an inviting space open to walk-ins to enjoy the Day menu, and from 6pm for dinner bookings.
The Day menu (served from 9am on weekends and Monday–Friday) might offer ricotta and cacao husk pancakes with smoked maple syrup and espresso butter, avocado on "life-changing" seeded toast with green chilli sambal, braised zucchini and pepita butter; and purple Congo potato gnocchi with cultured butter and herbs.
Moving into the evening, small plates like house-made fresh curd with char-grilled grapes and fig; raw and preserved veggies with whipped feta, green chilli and mint; and wood-fired beetroot with walnut tarator and tarragon function as share-friendly snacks or starters.
Larger dishes including char-grilled escarole with roasted yeast butter and green sauce or a roasted witlof farci with sage and bread stuffing and carrot glaze offer a perfectly balanced yet bold menu.
The drinks menu is just as carefully considered as the food, collaborating with Loggerhead Coffee for expert-crafted coffees before turning to curated wine and cocktails in the evening—all exclusively Australian.
Seating 30 with a choice of booth, bar or limited outdoor dining, Flora delivers a cosy place to enjoy the artistry of plant-based dining in the Inner West’s notable culinary scene, open daily.
